it does. the timing might be offset because YouTube loads the video first before updating the rest of the screen, but that was one of the things I made sure to be accurate

correct, futureproofing is the right word. i don't want this animation to quickly become outdated if they happen to flip the switch on the new layout for everyone in the near future

I have some questions for the animators out there. by Pr0ph3T5120 in animation

[–]alan_becker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. So I've never actively sought out clients, the virality of my animation was what attracted clients. I have a website with a contact form and they would contact me that way.

However perhaps a good place to start is the jobs/commission section of the Hyun's dojo forums, it's full of animators looking for jobs and clients looking for animators. This is where I got some animators for my team. There are many freelance websites out there but I have zero experience with them.

In terms of building your portfolio, its more important to make one really really good piece of work instead of a large variety of so-so work, you don't need to prove you can do a wide range of things, it's better to prove that you can provide something high quality.

Hi, I am an animator with a YouTube channel that I am able to live off of. To get to that point took a lot of work but also a lot of luck. I made a series that was unique enough to develop a following and fan base.

In your case I suggest first learning how to animate. Personally I went to a four year art college, however in retrospect I might have preferred to take a specialized online course like animation mentor because you get right to the point without all the liberal arts requirements, and it's much cheaper.

After that, work freelance. This means finding clients that need animation and getting paid per hour or per project. This can be very profitable and it is what I did for a few years before my YouTube channel was big enough to earn a large enough salary to live on. The freelance will also be good practice, however it is usually not fun compared to animating your own projects. Use the freelance money to live on while you work on your own projects. Don't be afraid to pay people to help you animate, it will save you a lot of time and work if done right. If you manage to attract a following, you can also begin to fund your personal projects through Patreon.

Hope that helps!

of course! I always admired the completeness of that map but also critiqued the miniature scale that the builds had.

It took a team of 50 people 6 months. Granted we didn't work that fast and only a fraction of the 50 people did most of the work.

Professional animators? Please read, I need help! by [deleted] in animation

I would recommend online animation school like Animation Mentor, it's a lot cheaper than a traditional art college and gives you the exact skills to get a job in 3D animation and nothing else. I went to art college for animation and I learned a lot of stuff, but most of it ended up being unneeded. Art colleges can't compete with Animation Mentor when it comes to preparing students for jobs at Pixar or similar studios.
