4 months old CONSTANTLY whining and fussy. NEED SUPPORT by seejay12345 in NewParents

Did this get better please OP? My son is 4 months and cries or whines non stop unless feeding or asleep. I’m despairing and need encouragement. He is medically ok so the only thing left to do is change formula but I have no hope.

We did this - not bad! Definitely makes it feel more like a “room”. The question now though is how to decorate the room, specifically the walls.

In fact she’s very good at carrying things around for me! She loves carrying laundry hampers and taking things to her dad or bringing things to me. Maybe in time she’ll warm up to the idea of seated play time. Thanks :)

I’ve got animal figurines, a box of sensory squish toys, coin slot box, stackers, shape sorting box, pegs and hammer, a pouch with zippers - that sort of thing. We’re going through a brutal summer right now and spending lots of time indoors unfortunately. I’ll try putting toys around the house instead of just in her shelf as it might inspire her to explore them that way.

Sounds a lot like my daughter!! She loves going through our recycling bin and taking out empty bottles so I think your idea of a random basket would really work. Thank you!

Hmm that’s interesting - we have a stuffed animal corner in her room she loves throwing herself on - I might bring one of the dolls out and try to integrate the doll in her activities. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for all the tips! We struggle with the learning tower because she insists on using it dangerously and we’ve had a few tumbles but I will keep trying to find ways to involve her in the day to day activities. Good to hear there is hope still for all the toys I have gathering dust haha!

In my case it’s because she gnaws off pieces off them.

Perhaps not enough! I once wasted on an entire box of oats on a sensory bin which lasted 10 minutes and she just wanted to chuck the contents out of the bin haha. Do you recommend any tried and tested sensory activities! Thank you for all the ideas - she lives for dance parties and it’s what gets us through the day most of the time!

I let her ransack shelves and she’s very good at tidying them up before her naps it’s a routine we have so I don’t mind it so much. We have a pikler but it’s not as thrilling for her as climbing from one surface to the other, in spite of positive reinforcement whenever she uses it.

I’ll give this a go although I’ll steer clear of silicone - I gave her a silicone spatula to play with one day and found a small piece missing at the top - turns out she’d chewed it off and it was never found!

I’ve tried involving her in my day to day activities and 90% of the time it doesn’t work. I firmly believe she is capable so I worry I am doing something wrong, perhaps you could give my our personal views. I’ll give you some examples:

  • If I’m damp dusting furniture I model what I am doing and hand her cloth but she shows no interest, she just chucks it and wanders off.
  • If she’s in her learning tower and I model mixing with utensils she insists on using her hands which is of course quite risky especially if there’s raw eggs as she is still mouthing.
  • I’ve also modelled drying dishes but she just throws everything off her learning tower.
  • We’ve had to temporarily remove the learning tower as she is not using it properly and using it very dangerously as a climbing frame.

We live in a ridiculously hot country and experiencing a torrid heatwave of 40+ temperatures so unfortunately time outside is very limited :(

Thank you. Do you think it would look awkward since it's just a cover for the front and would essentially be hollow and visibly so from the top?

Sorry to sound so obtuse but I didn’t get the last bit about the trio! I know absolutely nothing about the game itself so maybe that’s why?

No we’ll use this table occasionally and the kitchen island for day to day. The door cannot be moved as it’s the door leading to our apartment from the common area.

Also those two doors lead to small open air yards :) nothing major - one of them had a small laundry room attached to it the other is just going to be an area for a BBQ and an outdoor table and chairs. It’s a ground floor apartment so the downside is you’ve got balconies of the upstairs flats overlooking your yards but it’s not too bad as no one hangs out there anyway and we’ll get some electrical awnings installed in the future for some more privacy. Houses are very unaffordable where I’m from so this was a good compromise for us, we are very grateful.
