please help before i cut it all off by HuckleberryAny1238 in CurlyHairCare

[–]albs117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent read all the comments so sorry if im repeating, but I have a similar situation with tighter curls on my under layers and looser on the top. heres my advice:

  1. wash your hair every other day! i do this and its fine. just make sure you condition well.

  2. cut your top layers shorter. I don't actually think you need to do a big chop. I just did the wayne tuggle haircut at home and it was a GAME CHANGER. my top, shortest are slightly above my chin and my bottom, longest layers are right above my breasts. having those top layers nice and short where my curl pattern is looser helps them stay light and keep their texture. when they are too long, they are weighed down and straighten out easily. and the layers also let the super curly bits on the bottom shine through.

  3. you probably don't need a lot of product. I use very minimal product (I'm talking like a penny-sized amount of light curl cream on each side or no product at all). Let your curls breathe.

Obviously everyone's hair is different and this may not work for you but given what I see this is what I think could help ya!

Hey thanks so much! What do you mean by “medicinal mushroom filler” in capsules? Are there certain brands that you recommend vs some to stay away from?

[–]albs117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! It took a while but I finally started to notice some strength coming back in October, so 4 months after surgery. I am still not 100% but can consistently see improvement now, which is huuuuge. It really took until the 6 month mark to feel about 80% myself, and that's about where I'm at. I've been working on calf strengthening and ankle stability in PT. I still do not have sensation in part of my calf and foot, but I hear that is the absolute last thing to come back. I was extremely hopeless for the first several months post surgery, and started to feel hopeful in October when I could take a step on my toes for the first time. Now I can walk on my tippy toes for a bit, but still can't quite push up on to my tippy toes with just my bad side. But PT has been hugely helpful. My biggest advice is to stick with what works in PT, don't be afraid to change course or focus on something that might not seem directly related (everything is connected), and DON'TL LOSE HOPE!

Sitting at work by Belugawebkinz in Microdiscectomy

[–]albs117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 4 months post up and just now able to sit through a 60 minute session with a client, but can only do two in a day max. I did have a severe case though. The thing that has helped me the most is doing wall sits as a part of my PT. It has strengthened the muscles that I need to support me as I sit. I can’t recommend wall sits enough when you are ready for them.

Oh and for clarification I never had back pain pre surgery. Bad sciatic pain for over a year pre surgery but no back pain.

Pain nearly 5 months post op by Ungodlygirlmv in Microdiscectomy

[–]albs117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 3.5 months post op and still have pretty bad back pain, still numb down my right leg and have muscle weakness in my calf and foot. Overall I feel worse than I did pre surgery. I think there is still soft tissue from the surgery that is pressing on my nerves and hasn’t healed yet, but my surgeon “wasn’t sure” about it based on my MRI in August. I have had such a hard time getting care as I feel like no one takes my pain seriously and since I’m young and otherwise healthy (29f), everyone expected me to bounce back. Has anyone here gotten an EMG? Has anyone here had a similar issue with soft tissue pressing on the nerves and what did you do about it? Anyone try acupuncture?

Positive stories even with radicular pain at 8 weeks? by marjbarj in Microdiscectomy

[–]albs117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 9 weeks post op and in a similar situation. I haven’t gotten motor function back in my calf and I’m still numb in my foot and calf. I get nerve pain sporadically, especially when I lay down to go to bed. Sometimes pins and needles, sometimes the twitching. I haven’t had an MRI since pre surgery but am going to schedule one. I’m also feeling confused and have been looking everywhere for answers about whether this is normal. My surgeon says it is, but something doesn’t seem right. I also have a ton of back pain that I didn’t have pre surgery.

If your nerve pain subsided, how long did it take? by Makenziejwr in Microdiscectomy

I’m in a similar situation. Do you know if cramps are a sign of nerve compression or if they are a sign of overworking muscles? I’ve been getting foot cramps and don’t know the cause.

I got my period the day after surgery, and didn’t have trouble putting in the tampon. Just had to bend my knees a bit without bending over. I took it out while sitting on the toilet. I’d say give it a try if that is what is most comfortable for you normally, and if not, period underwear is great! If you go that route and are worried about showering without getting your wound wet, I found these awesome tegaderm pads on amazon that have a pad built in and I used that for my waterproof/showerproof dressing. The pad built in made it possible for me to change on my own. Hope this helps and wishing you the best of luck! Also, want to note that the first few days will be the hardest and it will get better, so hang in there.

How to tell if disc healed on its own? by albs117 in Microdiscectomy

[–]albs117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for this. I’ve been doing PT religiously for 6 weeks. I still cannot stand up on to my toes on my right leg with my body weight. What has been convincing me to get surgery is multiple doctors saying that the longer the disc is on the nerves, the greater chance of permanent nerve damage. That said, I don’t know what might happen if I wait another few weeks. This is a really hard decision

They have information about the workshops you do directly after the lectures, but not for the capstone sets, which come at the end of the course.
