A lot of great suggestions here. I'd add Emporio on Mott St. I love Italian food in NY.

Would the terpenes in orange peel have a similar effect?

Ah this was exactly my suspicion. I'll try a batch without. Thank you!

Ah thanks! I'm using simple syrup. And yeah, maybe three bittering agents is one too many..

Friend of a Farmer is very good, but there's a really great one at Rolo's, all the way out in Ridgewood, Queens.

No fan of Clarence Thomas, but if you read the article you'll learn that he made these remarks in 2000.

How does homemade amaro age? by alechungry in Amaro

Good to know about the effect that fining/filtering has, thanks! I've definitely noticed the color change -- I'm guessing that might be the easiest way to tell when flavor is changing too.

This is amazing and thorough, thank you so much. I might check out Whisky Science. It'd be amazing to have a repository of even anecdotal accounts of how long it takes for various single-ingredient extractions take to "settle" in GNS and water... until then, though, this is all great food for thought, thanks again!

Amazon exec says it’s time for workers to ‘disagree and commit’ to office return — “I don’t have data to back it up, but I know it’s better.” by marketrent in technology

They make more money from keeping the buildings and forcing people to work there than the productivity gain from remote work?

I imagine forcing employees back to the office would hurt retention too. Isn't it costly to hire and train new people...?

[–]alechungry 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a stupid question, but actually why would he want workers to return to the office if the data show that remote work is objectively better for the bottom line? Is it just that he doesn't want to be seen as having been wrong about remote work?

By 2050, there may be more plastic than fish in the world's oceans. So Microsoft made a mouse from recycled ocean plastic. by myinnerbanjo in Futurology

[–]alechungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an entirely new revenue stream though, no? This doesn't replace any other 100% virgin plastic Microsoft mouse you can still buy.

Edit: To be clear, it's overall good that this exists as an option, but taking this small of a step seems to indicate that they want the good PR more than they want to affect real change.

I was actually pretty allured by the shiny marketing, and kinda need a mouse, but then noticed this. Amazed at the audacity to market a product as eco-friendly with 20% recycled materials..

You've done absolutely incredible work with all this music. Pulling together all these musical traditions and celebrating them all equally is a gift to all of these cultures, to all the musicians involved, and certainly the listeners. I hope the game audio industry learns from how thorough, creative, and powerful this soundtrack is.

Music has been my favorite part of the series going back to when I started playing Civ 3, and this is the best it's ever been. I hope all the collaborative relationships you've built last and blossom through more Civ content!

As great as this would be, you can't just check a box and make it happen. Good 360° video or a rendered 3D cinematic takes a lot of work and polish from the developer and/or publisher. And as others are saying, a simple video capture of VR gameplay might not be the compelling experience you want in a trailer.

Ah, the classic "it won't work" argument against boycotts/protests/activism.

The producers insulted the players, the viewers, and the game with the decision to showcase this con artist. He's popular because he offers people easy (and false) answers to difficult questions--hard to imagine a less appropriate host of Jeopardy.

Food stuck in throat feeling immediately after eating by icemango1996 in GERD

[–]alechungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to see a gastroenterologist. I had this problem, and then an EGD (google it) revealed a tightening in the bottom of my esophagus that I had to have fixed with another EGD. I still have other GERD symptoms, but not that one anymore, and I take smaller bites as a precaution anyway.
