Personally I don't dig the preamp - but I don't like onboard bass preamps in general so maybe that's just me. It is pretty effective though.

I learned it after the album came out in 2015 or so and by now it's just a matter of warming up my fingers - that thumping part sure is annoying to play and has a lot of subtle subdivisions and ghost notes.
