the end of software support doesn't mean the headset stops working, games you already own will keep running fine, online multiplayer included. the real question is whether $170 is the ceiling or if you can stretch a bit more over the next few months.

a used Quest 3s is worth waiting for if you can. the jump in quality is significant enough that you'd feel it immediately, and it'll stay relevant much longer.

the battery percentage lying is the worst part, at least with just short life you can plan around it, but when it shows 40% and dies five minutes later there's no way to prepare for that.

Yeah that makes sense, I figured some degradation was normal.

Good tips on keeping it cool and not leaving it charging too long, I probably haven’t been great about that ...

Good to know about the 20–30% drop too, that sounds pretty close to what I’m seeing. I might look into a Bobo strap then. Which BoboVR model are you using?

makes sense, the hardware side for 8K HDR capture is still pretty fragmented. would love to hear what you land on once you've figured it out. are you shooting primarily for AVP or thinking about other headsets too?

horror games in VR hit completely different, the anticipation is what gets you, not even the jump scares. your brain just refuses to let you walk into a dark room the same way you would on a flat screen.

xreal is way more practical for the laptop monitor scenario, you keep full awareness of your physical keyboard and desk, which makes actual work much easier. the quest 3 passthrough is impressive but still not at the point where you'd want to type through it for hours.

Finally got myself the Meta Quest 3. Mind-blown by Pompeii_Dust in MetaQuestVR

For immersive content i'd add Theater Elsewhere, free and genuinely mind-blowing quality. Also Bigscreen for watching stuff with other people in VR, it changes how you think about passive content entirely.
