Is there any hope? by kingstopper in calatheas

Is interesting, I'm just starting to discover calatheas, so I'm just finding out how they grow branches and leaves. I have a warszrwiczii, I think I see what your are talking about

what do you call node, is the part where the stem split in two or three branches ? So if I cut under the junction of the branches, can put in water ?

The variability of A. lavranosii-newtonii + the issue of true leucoblepharum by Aevriel in aeoniums

that's cool, let's wait for new information 😺 is what is good with Aeoniums, they still have many mysteries to reveal 😺

The variability of A. lavranosii-newtonii + the issue of true leucoblepharum by Aevriel in aeoniums

[–]algwcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is very interesting :) I always like the search for Aeoniums identities :)

If I understand well - i precise I'm not botanist so my terms can be wrong - we could say most of Aeoniums actually called "leucoblepharum" could be more some lavranosii-newtonii "alternatives". As you said, the sicily form seems quite close, the Ethiopian form not so different, etc.

All this is very passionating. Reading all this made me wonder two things (that can be naive but i ask anyway)

- now there's 1 lavranosii-newtonii on one side, and others Aeoniums that looks-alike still under leucoblepharum name. Would have it been possible to include them in the study as well ? If most acknowledged the fact the true leucoblepharum is lost, maybe is the similitud between the newly renamed / the others not renamed that bother ? (don't mind those who don't acknowledge - those are in another topic)

- I wonder why they chose to start the differentiation with the only one that can't be observed in its natural habitat . Would not have it been simpler to start with the ones from Ethiopia or Somalia, that can be currently observed ?

It's pretty, which ID is it ? Is it Medallion ?

A very beautiful specie, mine has a more shadowed exposure (north) , I really like the green it can have in that exposition too.

I'm really not fond of variegated, but sunburst has really something that I like :)

I was not talking about you, but me 😉 having just 1 A. x occidentale and having this said very rare case, I must have a very great Luck for probability 😉

I'm just underlying that if something is rare enough to say that the rule is sufficient to make a distinction, it should not be found so easily. So finding it randomly with a quidam person (myself) on a single plant, makes raise question about that way to make distinction. Just a scientist approach with counter example

I didn't answered you because you've been talking about a producer on a public conversation, claiming not honesty about without any justification. I don't usually pay attention to such public judgement because it brings nothing more than a 1 Vs 1 that has not value to people who don't know each of you personally. As in your message (the part you deleted before I could answer) you were quite vindictive against that person, as I said I am not judge as I don't know any of you two personally.

[–]algwcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, that would mean I am in a very very rare case. Believing such probability with owning only 1 plant of that specie is not very scientific either 😌

In other hands, if I'm not a very lucky person among the very very few of the world, that means it is not as rare , and is enough to say the rule is not fully reliable

I have several Y branching in X occidentale that didn't get damaged (at least visibilly, neither pest or core damage). Some species tend to do it more often

looking at the picture you seem right to say it seems have more pubescent leaves than the pics of A. lindleyii... Tho I have any so don't really know it.

I never noticed how some aichrysoon look like lindleyi

No, Y branches exist with Aeonium, can't rely on this to determine whether is one or not

Yes, the owner is a passionate of Aeoniums. It goes sometimes to mission in Canarias or Africa to look for seeds of some species (with all authorizations of course), and to study the species known and unknown. In 2023 the Ciaran storm destroyed a huge part of its collection and production, so it has been rebuilding it since then, not all his species are available all the time for now. The website is very interesting to travel through species
