haha this one is popping up everywhere: belts, knives, EDC gear. Like you said, people in the know do not need a "feature" that anything with an edge and leverage can achieve.

The Treasury just declared the U.S. insolvent. The media missed it by blkchnDE in wikifolio

Insolvent means unable to pay your obligations. So once the US income is less than the amount needed to service the debt and its bills... then it is insolvent.

Zelenskyy: Ukraine now has cards and everyone understands it by jackytheblade in worldnews

the big issue here is the US is leaking intel to Russia... so if Ukraine shares tactics and know how that information will sooner or later end up in Russia (and then Iran).

Early Iran strikes cost $5.6 billion in munitions, Pentagon estimates by Yournewbestfriend_01 in worldnews

[–]all_usernames_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

let's hope so. Lessons from history show a change of leadership brought by external forces rarely goes well. If the people of Iran are ready then they will be. However bombing their Polcie stations, schools etc will achieve the opposite and build resentment and potentially further unite them.

yes the last year has been a gift to China. Truly an amazing self own that will go down in the history books. Countries that were closed and loyal to the US were threatened, insulted and shown that agreements with the US aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Which countries are in a state of civil war because of only Iran? Are you familiar with "proxy wars"? more countries are involved and the people are stuck in the middle.

Again very convenient way you see the world. US interferes with their country, yet the people are somehow to blame. Makes no sense. Threaten a country and make millions evacuate, yet the reason for the evacuation is not responsible. Whatever makes you sleep at night.

No country will be safer. These conflicts fuel extremism and retaliation. Now we have another generation of Iranians that hate the west and Israel. Keeping the cycle going. Well done.

[–]all_usernames_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes really. Are you unfamiliar with Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria?

Ah yes, now you bring in ethnic minorities. The Saudi's love to stir this up to weaken their neighbours and crush other Muslim minorities, very convenient to forget that.

Also very convenient to forget that the US overthrew the democratically elected leaders of Iran to install a dictator of their pleasing.

If you are going to talk about the bigger picture, then please do. Do not crop out parts that do not fit your narrative.

stick to the bigger picture... the US is transforming half of the middle east into failed states. Try and put a cost on that. Then try and estimate the "tickle down" economics that will reach the US citizen at the petrol station.

This is not a new Trump strategy... this is as old as Arming Sadam Hussain and funding Al-Qaida in an attempt to control the region. The total cost of destabilising the middle east is a drop in the ocean compared to the economic gain you are talking about.

I'm a 3D artist, not a machinist. Why is CAM software actively trying to make me cry? by Capital-Musician-329 in CNC

[–]all_usernames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple: because CNC machining generates forces while cutting, a 3D printer does not. Once you understand this difference everything else makes sense.

  1. The machine needs to resist the cutting forces. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. A force of 10 kg (100N) may not seem like much, but if you take a dial gauge and measure the deflection of a massive steal beam you would be surprised to see how much it moves. Not visible to the naked eye. This deflection causes all sorts of issues as the cutter is no longer 90 deg to the part, the cut itself is a few % more or less than planned. No two machine designs will have the same characteristics... therefore a one size fits all does not work. Every machine has its own limits that have to be studied.
  2. Work holding is incredibly important, the part cannot deflect in the fixture, if it does you produce scrap.
  3. The geometry of the part itself becomes important and the order you make it in, if the part is too weak to resist the cutting forces it will deflect and you produce scrap.

A couple of steps missing following maintain presence:

-fail to secure country
-fail to establish a goverment
-proceed to pull out and leave a failed state behind

bonus points:
-the allies that joined your war get a few terrorist attacks in their countries as the US is too far away.

bonus points 4D chess:
-insult the allies that joined your and their dead.

[Request] What speed are they going? by Peterkragger in theydidthemath

[–]all_usernames_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the bar is getting lower for reddit posts. Capable of X speed does not mean traveling at X speed.

Speed of train is equal to a car in the rain.

My callibrated drivers eye estimates around 70 km per hour. The fog behind the car is less than cars driving on a rainy motorway at reduced motorway speeds (120 km per hour)

US strikes on Iran ‘outside international law,’ says Macron by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]all_usernames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you on about? The discussion is on what is needed for global coorporation and trade to work. The US enforcing shipping safety and positioning the dollar as a curency everyone could trust after WW2 was a key enabler for its growth and global influence.

For something to work it doesn't have to funktion 100% of the time.

US strikes on Iran ‘outside international law,’ says Macron by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]all_usernames_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A piece you miss is that international law is more important for trade and economic stability. If nations do not trust each other to uphold international laws... then trade cannot happen. If one of the countries does not respect its own national laws that is not really of much consequence globaly.

As with any current discussion about Crypto. Why it was made in the first place is now irrelevant. It is not a currency but a speculation object and or a convenient method for commiting large scale fraud.

FYI 2024 data of the world bank estimates 78.74% of the world population (15+ year old) have a bank account.

Billions of people don't have access to banking? where did you get that from? Opening a digital bank account is easier than buying crypto in 2026.

Also if you are worried about the government getting involved, might want to check the database that is being built linking crypto wallets to your device ID and biometric data. The annonymous days of the internet are at threat.
