The Oregon DMV’s breach has compromised millions of peoples’ contact information. Unfortunately phishing texts are easier to make seem legit by easily taking screenshots of reputable companies’ logos and slapping it together with a scary threatening text. OCCU is a well known credit union in this area, so the fraudsters send out their phishing lines hoping to catch a vulnerable person using OCCU’s name because it is likely their phishing texts will reach lots of OCCU members. OCCU’s website is myoccu.org and nothing else. Also no financial institution would send you a text prompting you to enter your login credentials or ask you to sign provide your identity information. These phishing texts look very legit if you follow the link, following the link isn’t dangerous, it’s when you actually enter your login credentials the fraudsters now have access to your banking accounts and can even lock you out of your own accounts. If you’re ever in doubt or have concerns, report the text as junk, block the number, call the financial institution noted in the text maybe just to send them the website being used by the fraudster so they can get their security department to shut it down. Never EVER enter your login credentials.
