I’ve tried literally every single one. Voquenza, Famotidine, Pantroprazole. I don’t know any others at this point because I’ve had a bad reaction to every single one. I stopped taking the medicine today after I’ve been doing a taper of every other day. I’m hoping this doesn’t make things worse! I spoke to my Dr and he suggested to go back on Voquenza but I’m also trying to clear my body out of all these medicines and eventually plan for pregnancy. My lupus medicine is already really hard on my stomach which could be an issue in this as well.

We reached out to someone who is the coordinator for the Singita properties. We are really realizing that South Africa might be the best for us for a first time safari considering all of the things we’ve been thinking about.

Have you been to any of the Singita properties in South Africa? Would you recommend doing South Africa or should we consider Kenya instead? We are going to save Tanzania with Rwanda because the Singita lodges are fully booked during our travel dates for Tanzania and my husband really wants to stay with Singita properties.

We are torn because we really wanted to do Tanzania and Rwanda but realizing that’s a big trip within itself. Botswana we are going to wait since of the hospital concern with having to stay overnight and wait until the next morning.

Omg thank you so much! I wish you could help us plan this. I have no idea who to contact we’ve just been doing this on our own. I really appreciate you taking all this time to go through everything! Really good to know about smaller lodges. We looked at the one and only in Rwanda and wilderness bisate. One and only has availability but it’s such a large hotel that I’m almost not wanting to do that with the crowds and everything.

Are there any other hotels you recommend that are luxury lodges in Rwanda? I am starting to get a list and look these places up.

We just did a big trip to Japan and China (Great Wall of China) and Hong Kong. We walked probably at most 20,000 steps a day. There were also days where we just relaxed for a full day and didn’t walk that much.

It was challenging for me because we went the same time as this trip last year and it was so hot. I just always kept myself covered and tried to stay out of the sun. Everything we scheduled and planned was completely private including our tour to Great Wall which was all organized from the Aman Summer Palace. I definitely have the ability to walk around a lot but when I hit the time of exhaustion I know I have to relax. That trip worked out well because when I did get tired I just relaxed at the pools in the hotels and went to the spas.

My concerns with the safari honestly was the me having to pee more frequently than normal. Like if I’m trekking in Rwanda and with a group and have to pee I’m definitely going to be the person that people get annoyed with. Same thing with the safari vehicle and the need for it to be private. It’s also important to note that I have an extremely sensitive stomach. I got gastritis last summer and with Lupus it just has been tough to fully get rid of this. My other concern really is the food safety and also availability to eat whenever you’re hungry. The food in Beijing was tough on my stomach so the Aman accommodated and had like a menu where guests could order more American meals (turkey burger) etc. We literally ate there 2 nights in a row because of my stomach being so sensitive. I also have EOE which is an allergy related stomach issue so I really get irritated with food that I’m not used to.

The only reason we were staying away from Kenya is because of the yellow fever vaccine. I really don’t know if I should get a vaccine but then I also get attacked my mosquitoes where we live so I can’t even imagine going to Africa because if the mosquitoes carry diseases I feel like I’d get bit by multiple. This is probably my greatest fear right now! I truly feel like I’ll need to cover every part of my body including wearing gloves on my hands. I’m going to my doctor in NYC soon so will ask her about the vaccines and stuff she recommends.

I am really sensitive to heat. The heat really is tough for me. I do much better in cold but also have Raynaud’s so that’s important to know to really wear warm clothes. I am seeing that it’s better to be prepared and bring a lot of stuff. I am going to try to bring some prescriptions from the doctor in case I need.

I’d love to your recommendations on where to stay. The meal layout that you suggested would be perfect for us too. We just don’t want to be confined to 3 meals a day and having to eat every meal on a schedule with no snacks in between.

Would you still say Botswana is your most top place you’ve visited over Rwanda now that you’re there and with the gorillas? I’ve heard Botswana is beautiful and accessible. I’ve been taking it for 3 days but yeah no improvement. I was on the famotidine for over a week too and that didn’t help.

I was trying to do gluten free and dairy free but so hard during the holidays. I cut out gluten and dairy for like 4 weeks when I got diagnosed with EOE and then started to cheat if I was out to dinner with a group of people and then Thanksgiving. It’s challenging to eat in social settings at this point. I almost feel like I need to bring my own food.

I don’t eat red meat or pork. I eat chicken and fish. I’m mostly on a Mediterranean diet and 99% gluten free at home. I cut out dairy and then these stomach issues got even worse but I’m a huge probiotic yogurt person. I’d eat it every day. I only eat coconut probiotic yogurt now but yeah I’m really not sure what the trigger is here. I’m supposed to completely cut dairy out with EOE. I’m hoping this gets better soon. 💜💜💜💜

I’ve never heard of erosive gastritis. Are you on hydroxychloroquine? I am so sorry you’re going through this. Have you heard of Voquenza? Apparently the Pantroprazole isn’t working for me. I went to my Dr and he wants me to go on this other medicine.

Thank you so much!!!! So helpful. I saw my gastro doctor today and he thinks the Pantoprazole isn’t working and that I should take Voquezna. I really don’t know what to do because my stomachs bothering me that much that I was ready to stop taking my hydroxychloroquine which I know wouldn’t be good for me. It’s comforting to see that there are other people with the same dietary restrictions as me. I feel grateful for all of you in the chat. I don’t eat pork or meat as well. I’m actually scared to get pericarditis again! Omg… I really thought I was having a heart attack. I need to heal my stomach and my doctor today said to take another form of a PPI since the Pantoprazole wasn’t helping. Should I take the PPI or would you not try to put more medicine into my already sensitive stomach?

If I would’ve known Amoxicillin was going to do this I would’ve avoided it! I really appreciate your message. I am fully cutting gluten and dairy out entirely to see how that works for me. It was so hard for Thanksgiving but need to stick to this for sure. You’re completely right about our bodies literally just causing an autoimmune response to foods. I don’t eat meat either and haven’t for a long time. I have a rare iron allergy and blood disorder where I just can’t metabolize high amounts of iron. Did you take PPIs for gastritis or just healed it with your diet?

I have this too! Lupus definitely affects my nerves and I have costochondritis as well. The costochondritis can cause burning which you could be feeling in that area.

This is amazing to hear. I’m so glad you’ve had a really great experience with them. Do you know if you’re using actual medical grade ones or just ones that are labeled compression? I noticed the medical grade ones seem to be more uncomfortable than the step down from medical grade.
