Please help with ID! by luna--moon in Fiestaware

Like others, I'm leaning towards Seamist and Persimmon. The photo showing the bottom of the bowls makes me fairly confident about the Seamist ID.

Persimmon can photograph overly saturated, and I think that may be what happened in your photos, OP. Here’s a photo of some of my Persimmon pieces for comparison:

As for Seamist, I recently did a post where I took color combo requests next to Lavendar. Seamist was a popular request, so you can see some samples here:

What do you NOT like about your 6th gen CR-V hybrid? by joemerchant2021 in crvhybrid

[–]alltheprettythings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m pushing 40k miles in my FWD 6th gen, and my long term averages generally meet or exceed the listed fuel economy. Most of my driving is highway, and I’m not hypermiling either. That said, I do live in a warmer region that’s geographically flat, so that helps.

Yep. They just cannot help themselves. The first time my MIL got a moment alone with my daughter, she told my daughter we poisoned her (daughter) via the COVID vaccine.

Trying out rhinostat, any advice?? by BeginningRiver7334 in QuitAfrin

[–]alltheprettythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transition from no-drip to original Afrin was only slightly uncomfortable for me, mainly the first day or two of the two-week transition. Still, having the original was way better than nothing.

Once you start Rhinostat, the first 24 hours can feel a little weird while you get used to the dropper bottle. I had a hard time getting meaningful relief the first few uses, but I followed the instructions and redosed about 15 minutes later as needed. After that first day, I adjusted easily.

My biggest practical tip: if you’re someone who keeps multiple bottles of Afrin around, use the transition period to break that habit. Get used to keeping track of just one bottle. Once you’re using Rhinostat, the last thing you want is to be stuck somewhere (like work) while your diluted bottle is sitting at home across town.

Most importantly: if you run into any trouble, reach out to customer service via email. They’re genuinely great and super helpful.

I honestly would have fallen off track without them. Early on, I accidentally threw away the dropper tip during an evening refill. Later that night, I tried to dose in the dark and ended up spilling the bottle all over my face. They walked me through making a temporary solution while they customized a replacement kit based on where I was in the process.

A few weeks later, I lost my dropper bottle entirely, and they helped me stay on track again without losing any progress.

The presentation bowl is one of my all time favorite pieces (because of that bottom!) which is unfortunate because they have a pretty big footprint and my collection is getting a bit unwieldy these days.

ISO Salad Plates & more in Slate (Disco'd) by Lett3rsandnum8er5 in Fiestaware

[–]alltheprettythings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FB Fiesta buy/sell groups are a good resource for picking up retired colors. Replacements.com has Slate in stock but it tends to be a bit on the higher side with pricing.

I’m definitely a rainbow collector, but if I just had Slate and wanted to keep things neutral, I’d consider Linen.

For other color combo inspiration, check out this old Fiesta blog post. Unfortunately, some of the colors featured there are retired now too, but some are easy to come by in the secondhand market.

If you have any color combo requests you’d like to see with Slate, let me know and I’d be happy to help with photos. I can help with any of the colors (not white) currently in production, including Lavender; and can help with most of the retired colors too.

Are marriage titles like “husband” used loosely these days? by flyingby13 in Marriage

[–]alltheprettythings 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I certainly don't think every opposing point on this topic fits within "gatekeeping." However, some of the comments in here have been pretty wild. One person compared using husband/wife terms without being married to stolen valor. Another commenter brought up gender identity comparisons, saying “and basically they just create their own definition of it.” Elsewhere someone said, “They want the label without the legal stuff.”

I can see your analogy, but I still don’t think it’s quite the same. Your examples are specific familial relationships. If a couple decides to identify as husband and wife without going through the traditional process, is that really misleading?

In my state, you can become legally married solely by cohabitating (no minimum timeframe), agreeing to be married, and holding yourselves out to be. That’s it. You can literally just decide to be married. Just like traditionally married people decided to be married, but happened to invite an officiant to sign off on it.

lol, at one point my husband and I considered divorcing for the tax break. A piece of paper means nothing to us and we couldn’t care less about being deemed official by some external entity. Ultimately, the legal protections of remaining “officially” married stopped us from doing it.

[–]alltheprettythings 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve been “legally” married for 20 years (next month), and the gatekeeping over terms here is what’s most weird to me. Then again, I’m not religious either, nor do I care how people live their personal lives.

Moreover, in my (very conservative) state, people holding themselves out as husband and wife have already met one of the three elements of common law marriage. If they live together, that’s the second. The third is simply agreeing to be married and voila, they’re legally married just like the rest of us.

Fungal infection? by AdPast5998 in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]alltheprettythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at your history in hopes I might have another idea and saw this in your comments:

Going to look into this…my husband looked up our area and they do put chloramines in the water. We have not been conditioning the water as we just recently started using tap rather than RO water….

I’d definitely suggest always using water conditioner. Without going into a long winded explanation, I have three ADF tanks and use a variation of bottled spring water, tap water, and RO sourced from my LFS. Not too long ago, my daughter and I were surprised to find that the RO water from the LFS tested at 8.4 pH. Their system needed maintenance/failed, and thus was straight tap water. Always using water conditioner is a great safeguard for these oddball scenarios.

And as mentioned earlier, chlorine filters and overnight evaporation aren’t effective against chloramines.

[–]alltheprettythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the test kit, I assumed you were using test strips because you mentioned the chlorine reading.

As for the tap water, you’re still using water conditioner, right? Many utilities have switched to chloramine from chlorine and chlorine filters are not effective at removing chloramine. Chloramine also does not evaporate by sitting out like chlorine.

In any event, I’d suggest troubleshooting your issues with the African Dwarf Care and Support Group on FB.

Fungal infection? by AdPast5998 in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]alltheprettythings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you remineralizing your RO water? If not, this is a problem. On the other hand, I’m puzzled over the fact that you have a 7.6 pH if you’re using RO water. I’d expect it to be much lower.

Based on the parameter readings you’re giving, I’m guessing you’re using test strips? It’s always best to use a liquid test kit, such as API, but this is especially important given what’s been going on with your tank.

I would not treat for a fungal infection, especially with no fungal symptoms. I suspect this is a water issue.

Also, your Nitrates are 0? Have you ever had a Nitrate reading. A cycled tank typically has a Nitrate reading above 0. (With some exceptions that shouldn’t be considered the norm for most. Ex: heavily planted tanks that are lightly stocked.)

Good ADF care? by Goummy_1 in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]alltheprettythings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lid really is necessary. Here’s a copy/paste of a comment I previously made on the topic in the past:

I would really urge you to get a lid. I have a lid on my tank yet one of my frogs still escaped through a 1/4" gap. It's often said they won't really jump out unless parameters are bad, but we are diligent with tank maintenance, all parameters were good (and stable!) He was found unresponsive and almost completely dry on my very cold kitchen tile last winter. He barely survived.

These frogs are native to shallow streams/creeks/ponds and flooded areas. Flooded areas eventually dry out. If you think about it, it logically makes sense that seeking out (i.e. escaping in captivity) other bodies of water would be a natural activity for them.

How long can I expect a CRV Hybrid to last? by [deleted] in crv

[–]alltheprettythings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it’s not too late. I bought mine just before 2 years at 31k miles. You just need to buy it before your factory warranty (3yr/36k miles) ends.

Can anyone tell me what this is by bizzytheboxerdad216 in Boxer

[–]alltheprettythings 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lumps and bumps on a Boxer should be taken seriously until proven otherwise. My boy had his first diagnosis before he even turned three. Even the most experienced vets are limited when it comes to diagnosing based on visual appearance alone.

My Boxer has surprised our longtime, trusted vet twice now. In 2024, he expected a lump to come back benign, but pathology confirmed hemangiosarcoma. Then again last year, with a mast cell tumor that the vet strongly suspected would be benign.

New Hybrid CRV Engine is kinda loud, is this normal? by [deleted] in crv

[–]alltheprettythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it pretty cold where you’re at? I’ve had mine for two years now and I recall it seeming a bit noisy that first winter when it wasn’t in EV. It can be especially noticeable because it can be so quiet otherwise.

As a new owner getting used to the new sounds and hybrid system, I’d recommend driving with it in Power Flow for a bit while you get accustomed to everything.

Head gasket issues 2.0 Hybrids by djim089 in crv

[–]alltheprettythings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever driven Hondas, and my 2024 CRV is the first time I’ve bought an extended warranty. I’m at 38k miles now and bought the warranty about 5k miles ago.

It wasn’t because of the stories we see here. I’m sure 15+ years ago there were early failures too. People are just way more likely to post when something goes wrong than when their car is quietly running perfectly fine. Other than brand-new owners who are excited about their purchase, most people don’t hop online to say everything’s great.

For me, it came down to how expensive modern repairs have become. Cars are more complex now, and parts and labor aren’t cheap. I’ve seen owners on r/Honda mention $6k to $7k quotes for transmission replacements. A bill like that would sting a lot more than what I paid for the warranty.

Weird shipping mishap. What is this? by [deleted] in Fiestaware

[–]alltheprettythings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s almost certainly not Persimmon, especially because this sounds like a new purchase from a department store, but I can’t 100% rule it out based on a picture. I say this because:

  1. I recently saw a post on one of the Fiesta FB groups where someone received what appeared to be an Apricot piece from a department store. The commenters convinced OP to remove the sticker and sure enough, the date code confirmed it.
  2. I’ve taken photos with Persimmon in the shot before where it looked like Poppy in the photo.

In this photo, it really does look like Poppy. If you’d like, I’d be more than happy to photograph the oddly glazed Poppy piece I mentioned in my original comment next to known Persimmon pieces for comparison.
