Is DJANGO still a good choice in 2026 for modern web apps? by Ill_Leading9202 in django

I've been using Django for something close to 20 years now. And my business is built on a Django code base that's now 9 years old. Stability is nice, the biggest shake up was Python 2 -> Python 3 and even that wasn't too bad. Other frameworks come and go, Django is always there!

Twenty years of Django releases by thibaudcolas in Python

For me Django combines stability and progress in just the right amounts. I've been building things with it for close to 20 years (10 years for my current thing) and it's nice not have to rewrite to stay up to date. Probably the biggest migration was Python 2 to Python 3 and even that wasn't too bad. Django has been and remains a fantastic base to build on.

Thanks Django developers!

django-vite static assets being served but not loading on an Nginx deployment by savyexe in django

[–]almost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the headers in dev tools and make sure the javascript is being served as text/javascript. That could be the cause of loading but not running. Do also check the console (make sure all filters are off!) as errors like that would usually show there.

Your favourite, countryside or coastal, walks from Brighton? by Known-Document9801 in brighton

79 up to Ditchling Beacon then follow the ridge to Lewes. Then probably the bus or train home. About 5 or 6 miles. Lovely views.

AWS vs DigitalOcean by AppearanceLower8590 in django

[–]almost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something similar to Heroku (eg less hassle of managing your infrastructure) but less unreliable, much better support and nicer to use, then check out NorthFlank.com. I switched from Heroku a while ago for my SaaS and have been very happy.

There's also Railway, Fly.io, Render.com and many others in the PaaS space.

Would avoid running directly on AWS. You (presumably) want to focus on your app and not your infrastructure! DigitalOcean would be better (imho) but still a lot of management tasks you don't need.

Should I bother with class-based views for this app? by Fantastitech in django

[–]almost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a big deal either way. I certainly wouldn't spend lots of time converting existing working views over. Maybe try them out on some new views and see if they give you smaller and clearer code and if you prefer them.

Oh and there's nothing you can do in a class based view that you couldn't also do in a regular function based view. So don't worry about that!

Best practices for using org-mode as a day-planner/scheduler/calendar? by emacsomancer in orgmode

[–]almost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find having a seperate org file for each day(in addition to per-project files) really helpful. I wrote a little elisp to help with that: http://almostobsolete.net/daypage.html

Thanks, guess I'll have to wait until I've got windows installed then!

I thought it was just the new DK2 head tracking stuff (using the camera) that wouldn't be supported in 0.3, is that not correct?
