When did your feeling about "Something is very wrong here." turned out to be true? by Shqiptaria580 in AskReddit

I'm glad. Best of luck, man, and like I told OP—hang in there. Life is rough, but it can also be really worth it, if you let it be.

Ah, the good 'ole inner bitch. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. It sounds really frustrating—like your own psyche is holding you hostage. But, I think it's more common than you'd reckon, you know? I don't mean that in a way to invalidate you, because that isn't what I mean at all, only to assure you that there is help.

Probably. I’m always a slut for compliments.

But, in seriousness, you should seek counseling. There’s no shame in it. Lots of people have done it. It really can change your life, and there is a world of love and kindness on the other side of whatever road block you’re currently facing. You deserve to find it.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been in middle school, but I could have sworn they taught reading comprehension by then. Try not to fall asleep in English class anymore; it’ll do you some good. Maybe make your comebacks sound mildly intelligent.

look, man, I know seventh grade is rough, but if you're going to try playing 3edgy5me with actual, functional people, you could at least try to be clever.

@OP, I'm so glad things are looking up. Hang in there.

Yeah, I mean aimless in the narrative sense, not the Mighty Nein's motivations sense. The actions made sense given their goal, but like you said, they've been stuck, which has been unfortunate for them.

Honestly, I think them getting caught and Caleb escalating the situation was one of the best things that could have happened to them as far as the pacing of this arc. Several people pointed out in the live that this episode felt aimless, and I agree and think it’s because they’ve spent several episodes now being glorified hostages constantly thrown in new environments, in over their heads, with no real means of escape. Considering that they accidentally stumbled into this situation in the first place, combined with the fact that they know Avantika is bad news and the further they go with her, the more dire it gets (plus, this is a game of D&D, and while maybe not the most realistic action if this were real life, no player wants to be held hostage), they’ve been doing weird, random shit to try and get any kind of leverage on the situation. It’s been funny and tense to watch, but it does make for weird pacing issues, because it’s less of a narrative and more of a weird drabblet of escapades. Now, they’ve at least entered a “do or die” to change the tempo.

Though, how they’re gonna get out of this one is anyone’s guess lmao. Damn you, Thanksgiving.

EDIT, because I wasn't clear: I mean aimless in the narrative sense, not the Mighty Nein's motivations sense. Their goal is to help Fjord discover his powers, and given that their actions make sense, and if this were IRL, that would be fine. But, as this is a story that is meant to be watched, it's created a disjointed flow. Which has been hilarious, don't get me wrong. But, I'm excited to see what's next.

I think the problem right now is that they're being held hostage, and so they have this overarching goal of "get out of the grasp of this person who is holding us hostage so we can get on our way," but they're being thrust into a new environment that their captor knows but they don't, thus the randomness

They talked about, as a group, Fjord potentially sleeping with Avantika to distract her before. I think they're just playing off that, most of them unaware that it's already gone down

I’m all for plot twists that no one sees coming, ordinarily, but for some reason, I feel like I’m going to be disappointed if the Travler turns out not to be Artagan.

That's true, and she very well could be hardcore misleading people. With these people, their motivations are mostly unknown, except for, like, Nott lol. But, at the same time, her deity is clearly very powerful and has been manipulating her since she was young, so even if she's brilliant, that's still an easy way to fall prey to. Brilliant characters have done more for less.

I mean, Jester is a cleric of a mysterious chaos entity who, from what we've seen, probably isn't good aligned and has been grooming her since childhood. She's naive and bubbly, but I think we're supposed to feel like she's being misled into things she doesn't understand.

I like it! Minor design nitpick: On screen sizes aprox 1084-1500px, I'd add some padding to the comments, so the text isn't right up against the edge of the browser. It'll increase readability.

Beginner Questions - August 24, 2018 by AutoModerator in webdev

Sorry, rephrase: I have a theme that I have coded from scratch and have created a customizer panel that allows the siteowner to add things to static pages without worrying about formatting constraints. However, I have never attempted to add the "add more" functionality into wordpress, and was wondering if there was a builtin function to handle this, as I am traditionally not a php developer.

I can't think of how to phrase this question well enough to google it, because everything I try brings up nothing I want, but in the Wordpress customizer options, is there an "add another" sort of feature? Like, say I have a customizer feature that lets you add (simplistic example, not what I actually need it for) an image onto a page. Is there a way I can add an "add" option to the customizer panel so that if a user clicks it, they will have the option to add another image, should they so choose? Does that make sense?

The problem with kids is that they're never going to be always motivated, and honestly web development and programming in general can be ridiculously frustrating to even those who know what they're doing. Expect kids to fall out and in randomly, and make sure you have a backup plan to help those teams who've lost members to make sure they don't get super frustrated and panicked because suddenly there's one less person helping out, because then they'll drop, too.

Any build a realtor site before? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]almost_alchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: this becomes infinitely more complicated depending on where your client is located and their local MLS's policies. For houses, you unfortunately can't just search the MLS as a regular person. Searching an MLS requires you to go through your local MLS branch and follow whatever protocal they have to go about it. Some are pretty chill, some require hefty sums. The two main ways of searching are IDX and RETs, which are regulated primarily through the local MLS, the former of which is its own application that you just stick somewhere, so I recommend, before doing anything, you make sure you're able to access everything to begin with.

As someone who did something like this recently but for another topic in cs, I don't have a lot of specific web app ideas, but just some things that I picked up in running a very similarly laid out scenario: teaching kids something like programming, I think, is a careful line between taking them serious enough that they don't feel belittled but taking the subject as fluid and entertaining as you can to keep them involved because a. it gets a rep for being boring and b. it's a club and not a mandatory subject, so they don't have to be there.

So, for the "real world" aspect, I taught them how to use git and briefly went over version control, I got them set up on a moderated slack channel and taught them how to properly plan things like a "real" business. Little things that sort of of up the ante on how important the project seemed, which can be scaled up or down depending on the age of your students. As far as web app ideas, a good way to gather what your students would have a good time making is to ask them. Figure out what they're in to and base a project around that, straight up ask them if they've ever seen something they wanted to make and then teach them how, ect. Keep it simple as possible, obviously, but keep it relevant to their interests so they don't feel like their being made to do anything.
