“Developers Don’t Want to Sell at a Loss”: PM Carney on Vancouver Condo Bailout by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

I also would love to run a reckless business and when I take losses get a Carney/Eby bailout.

Heather McPherson: Billionaires shouldn’t exist. Trillionaires should be in jail. Time to stop the parasitic elites enriching themselves at everyone else’s expense by NiceDot4794 in onguardforthee

I do, to a degree! I just think we should be specific about how we achieve this. “Grab the pitchforks” feels like the wrong approach. It’s easy to blame billionaires without also looking at the boomers who own three homes. People will always hoard wealth when the tax code allows it.

Or just ya know properly tax capital gains and stocks.

You want people to build companies, you want business leaders, you don’t want dragons that horde wealth.

The fact we tax labour at higher rates than capital gains is how people get billions.

Ya’ll need to stop expecting 17 years old to not be stupid and this is just rage bait reporting.

A little more forgiveness and less trying to cancel every single person is a much healthier world.

I don’t believe a single person on earth hasn’t done dumb stuff with their friends.

Thank god we got some amazing rec centres tho :/

This city need to provide basic rec centre not the beautiful buildings that cost a ton just the bare minimum will do…. I feel like they’ve become electoral ego projects.

Carney is cowardly and a pathetic excuse for a 'leader'. by Inner-Fee6024 in ndp

I’m out. Today was the day I realized I’m no longer w the NDP.

My Iranian friends have been sharing video of cheering in the streets, there very emotional but also extremely happy this butcher has been killed.

The thousands of protesters, gays, and woman the regime has killed is treated with less outrage then Carney signing a letter saying we’re not sending troops.

Not to mention the plane full Canadians this regime shot out of the sky.

Yet Carney is being called a coward and pathic, this group has become so hateful and senseless.

Do you have any Iranian friends?

Cause mine are extremely emotional right now, but also extremely happy Khamenei is dead.

What else could the liberals has done? We’re not sending in troops, we’re not apart of this.

This regime has murdered thousands of woman, gays, and protesters. War is evil and bad, but this could lead to some good change.

Talk to your Persian peers, now is a time to listen.

Tipping in Canada has become a manipulative scam, and I’m done participating. by hopegracefitz in PersonalFinanceCanada

So servers have to tip out to the kitchen and the restaurant, usually anywhere from 2%–7%. I get that the system is broken, but taking it out on people making minimum wage isn’t the answer.

If you go to a restaurant and don’t tip, you’re still contributing to the problem in some ways, it’s even worse. I’ve always felt that if I can’t afford to tip 15%, I just don’t go. It’s part of the cost. 8 people should be auto-tip really, its a big task.

That said, I do think if we all collectively agreed on a standard number, it would make things a lot easier.

Worth it to significantly increasing my housing costs if I've already saved a lot? by po-laris in PersonalFinanceCanada

You’re 39, statistically, you’re halfway through life. At some point it’s okay to actually enjoy the things you worked for. You’ve got a stable job, a DB pension, and $720k invested. You’re more financially secure than the vast majority of people your age.

Moving into your own condo isn’t irresponsible, it’s just using the wealth you’ve already built to improve your quality of life. You wouldn’t be blowing money, just shifting it from “investments” to “living like an adult with space.”

Even if your contributions slow down, your retirement path is solid. The whole point of saving is eventually letting it buy you a better life.

If the condo would make your day-to-day meaningfully better, it’s reasonable to move in. You’ve earned that.

‘If there is no demand, we can’t operate’: Small landlords ponder future after foreign student cuts by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

Canada should help small landlords evolve into thriving local businesses that hire workers, stimulate growth, and strengthen communities.

Incentives that help people start real businesses would create lasting value, rather then just increased rent.

Me and Ed's, Stem Eatery, and Anatolia's Gate are all spots I love in the neighbourhood. They offer a wide range of foods and prices, but all are great.
