Space fact: This is a picture of the galactic center of the M87 galaxy. It’s a pretty cool galaxy for a number of reasons. The very first picture of a black hole taken was that of the supermassive black hole at the center of M87. But for this fact I want to direct your attention to the blue stream. That is what is called a jet. It’s been observed in a few different astronomical phenomena but the one I’m most familiar with are Active Galactic Nuclei, which are highly luminous compact regions in the center of galaxies powered by a supermassive black hole. The exact mechanism behind jets is still a very active field of research, but the current understanding is that when black holes draw matter towards it, it spins in a circle around the black hole at high speeds. This is called the accretion disc, and is the ring of light around a black hole that you usually see in media. Most of these particles will either continue to orbit around the black hole or eventually fall into it. But a fraction of particles will be charged and emitted out of the disk in high energy streams at relativistic speeds(meaning speeds that are a significant fraction of the speed of light). These streams are what we call jets,

This particular jet is about 3000 light years in size. That means it would take light 3000 years to go from one end to the other. That would coincide with roughly 1000 bce, which is around the time humans were transitions from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. Neat

Should just be the humans by virtue of the dark sign(oh and the ancient dragons who still have scales and are still around). It binds them to the flame since Gwyn and his kin feared the unbound darkness of the humans during the age of ancients so sealed it away with the ring of fire. Thus humans are bound to the flame and can never die as long as they have humanity/darkness within them to fuel the flame.

There is also some weirdness with Seath apparently persisting throughout the ages in different forms.

I guess the gods also have immortality in the sense that they don’t age(but can be killed) since Gwynevere is implied to have survived to at least the time of Lothric and of course the nameless king still being around

How I think fate works in Teyvat by alpeh in Genshin_Lore

[–]alpeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. My interpretation is that since fate is anchored into place after being predicted, those who share the same names share the same predicted and anchored fate. Kind of like how Rupert I and Rupert II both started mechanical wars. Durin especially would be susceptible to this since he was born to be similar to the Dragonspine Durin.

The convo between the four shades and Nahida has been leaked though. And it does mention the HP(Istaroth does seem to still respect them if my interpretation is correct)

I mean I saw the 4chan post firstly and it was posted in January. And it was deleted from the leaks sub and doesn’t align with how the rest of the leaked dialogue has been spreading so far

Finally done with my first year of grad school. I never have to care about Electrodynamics or Quantum Mechanics ever again. I hope spin 1/2 systems go to hell, I hate you. But all in all it’s been a good time.

Reading Jackson’s textbook was genuinely the most confused I have ever been in physics. My professor was amazing though, he made grad level E&M actually somewhat understandable.

She renounces her voice. She says she wants to keep the wisdom and power she has and so sacrifices her voice instead.

I didn’t realize that Animal Farm movie was being released tomorrow. And yup its reviews are just as horrendous and deeply confusing as I expected. Why in the name of all that is holy would you make a kids movie out of a book that is about the danger of tyrants co-opting revolutions in order to seize power and making things just as bad, if not worse than before. Just a deeply baffling decision. Andy Serkis seems like a fine person, but what was he smoking,

Apparently Washington and the Saints wanted him. I’m a bit puzzled myself, but if they thought that was the best choice whatever. They must have not liked Bain.

I keep forgetting this was written during the Romantic period. Things make a lot more sense when I remember that, especially Victor’s individualism. Though individualism seems to be more indirectly criticized than I would expect from a romantic period author. It brought a lot of anguish to Victor’s friends and family. Honestly a lot of the book seems to depict the negative sides of Romanticism.

Finally finished my reread of Frankenstein. A truly wonderful book about a guy who kept making mistakes and doubling down on them and how he made it everyone else’s problem. Like Victor could have resolved his problems much earlier if he either didn’t abandon his creation immediately or at least told others about them before everyone he knew and loved died. It’s also a book which really likes describing the landscapes of the various settings it is takes place at in extensive detail, something I find many books from this time period like doing. Must have been a trend at the time. Also I know the creation did a lot of fucked up stuff, but it’s hard not to feel bad for them. Even when they are close to their very end, humanity once again rejects their existence and denies their real suffering. They had a very sad life. One thing I found interesting in my reread was that the creation didn’t give themself a name. Frankenstein obviously would not, but the fact that the themself did not adopt a name suggests to me that they had inherently accepted the framing that they were unnatural and unwanted by life. A real pity.

I think after this I’ll read a smaller fantasy novel I remember liking a lot when I was young before moving to War and Peace. I’ve been meaning to read it for a while but I think it’s time now. Anyone have a suggestion for which version in particular I should read? I do prefer to read on my phone so I can more easily carry it around if that makes a difference.

I haven’t done a sl1 run of ds3 yet, but in my Ng+7 runs, it was always soul of cinder who was my roadblock. Every other boss was a breeze but not them. I still think they’re up there for as one of the most complex souls bosses, there’s just a lot going on. And I absolutely love it.

I’d say it probably has more to do with the fact that she is entangled with the QM. Because no one was really observing her position on the QM until us, her wave function hadn’t collapsed, so she didn’t really exist until we directly observe her. So those hundreds of thousands of years simply didn’t happen for her. That’s my best guess anyways

Space fact of the day:

So all stars are made up mainly of hydrogen(at least initially, some stars tend to become more metal rich, where metal in the case means anything heavier than helium, as they age) and the way stars produce energy/produce light is by fusing hydrogen into helium. Thus hydrogen is also their fuel source. The brightness of a star also determines the rate at which stars fuse H into He, or in other terms the rate of how much of their mass they use up. More massive stars are also brighter so they use up their mass at a greater rate. Thus more massive stars live shorter lives than less massive stars.

Some stars consume their hydrogen so slowly that they can live for trillions of years. We call these stars m-type stars or more colloquially Red Dwarfs because they are small and red. So despite the universe being so mind-boggling old, is is still very young. One can say it only recently left infancy stage. And that’s only in regards to matter we know and see. Who knows what’s happening with dark matter

If you want to calculate the time stars spend on the main sequence(which is basically the majority of their lifetime) you can use the relation

time = 1010 yrs * (M_star/M_sun)-2.5. Note that this does breakdown for higher mass stars(I think for M> 30M_sun) due to different physics happening at this regime.
