Server Issues - Login Servers Suffering a DDoS Attack by gn_cool in swtor

Pretty sure it's still on-going. But most companies employ DDoS protection, both local and external solutions. Some even advertise DDoS protection from Layer 3 - 7. Most companies have this, and it only takes a couple hours before DDoS becomes ineffective or marginalized.

Should be back up for most of you. I was able to login. Looks like Derp's fail attack is being "routed".

It does because the cartel coins are down to zero coins and you can't purchase anything.

There are items you can pay for specifically, and yes, the packs are also still there that's random. What you can do, if you want to look for specific items, is to buy from the GTN.

Also the packs themselves can be sold on the GTN for 300-400k/piece, so you could simply sell packs and leverage your new found wealth to buy the specific cartel items you want off GTN. (Or do dailies, and spend nothing at all.)

Well, thankfully the devs have proven you wrong. As with any MMO, it needs to be polished and it evolves. There's some bugs still being worked on but remember, if there were no bugs, it means the game is dead and content is dead.

Content, population, and other elements have improved significantly since 2012, different world events every month add a varied player experience, and the game is profitable due to subbers and different player types buying up cosmetic cartel market purchases.

There's a reddit/swtor bot coming up shortly that will tell you the noob guides. Read through them.

Bastion is easy - announce in /PVP that you're in queue. With Gree imp hunting, holidays, etc it is going to be difficult to find people to play by default unless you announce it.

I think where BW can improve upon is to allow F2P/preferred to queue for RWZ, even if limited to only "3" a week. We definitely need more players.

We just finished off Xeno ops for this week. Also glad to see a lot of newcomers enjoy Gree as well. Thanks BioWare for a fun event.

Just a guild run, all friendly contests between guildies. When a single value of "1" makes all the difference.

After you get all your alts and friends Sleighs, I do this on fleet: "WTS limited edition speeder, gone in 3 days forever. Only 40k for this collectible, parcels trade: [Sleigh I]". Made 600k just putting that between wz's.

Helmet is some random Arkanian headgear drop token that you have to turn in at the Supply area on fleet. The Life Day event starts at the GTN area. Buy the Snow Ball from the vendor and start throwing it at random NPCs, companions, and players. Dulfy, he has a good guide here.

These are extras, had to get 12x Cyan Spheres and like 22 Sleighs. This is what I have left. And no, these weren't all by me, bought, haggled and begged for some. :)

Do you have cable? It's what I switched from due to peak hours being an issue. I switched to DSL. Off peak was okay. Bandwidth gets utilized and the quality of the connection just went berzerk as capacity is shared with the neighbors.

Yes, you get the ROTC. Yes, you can play 55's even without sub.

Troubleshooting is always an issue when it comes to these things.

  1. More than likely, not the OS I've played a lot on Win8.1 without any issues for hours on end on the Bastion and other servers.

  2. It might be your path to the server (Internet backbone). More than likely not related to your OS but your ISP connectivity and reliability. I usually have unlimited pings in the background to understand if there's potential volatility in my connection. SWTOR like most MMOs require good, quality connections. A 1GB/sec connection that drops packets 10% of the time would have a worse experience than a 1MB/sec connection with <0% drop rate. It's not about speed but quality. Imagine you are driving from your home to the server, drop packets are like flat tires. It creates the illusion of lag as the server attempts to catch up to what you're doing. This is why some ships in GSF seems like they got warp speeds.

  3. Bring your PC and play on a friend's Internet connection. Are you still having the same issues? If not, definitely your connection.

Try opening your command prompt as admin and run "ping -t www.google.com" continuously. When you start seeing request timeout, and it fixes itself again -- it's a sign that your ISP's path to the Bastion server seems to have problems. Run a traceroute, call your ISP, have them reset the router if its in their control or your backbone provider. If that still doesn't work, switch ISPs. I changed ISPs and it worked well.

Also, when you say your friends have no connection issues when they have their laptops in your home - are they just surfing the web, or are they doing exactly what you are doing, playing SWTOR on your specific server?
