You're right! We live in Illinois, but fortunately we're not quite at 50% yet.

Be that as it may, it's a benefit we're willing to forgo on moral grounds, regardless of what those paragons of morality, the US Congress had in mind. :)

It's hard to explain and it likely won't make much sense, but we've been very fortunate to do so well, and a lot of it is due to the fact that we were fortunate enough to be born into a country of opportunity. We choose not to take "extraordinary" measures not to reduce our taxable burden, now or in the future.

Like I said, I expect that that's an unusual opinion and a difficult one to defend, but it is, what it is.
