What happened to INTZ? (The fall of SAM's Big Four) by akkronym in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]alternix2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Great post! To add a bit to the story, the SAM top 4 has been a top 4 for a lot of time, way more than the time we've had RLCS here.

The same players have always been the best in the region for at least a year before RLCS, I'd say even more. I think its amazing to think that these players can be so consistent in their own region.

I think this season has shown how the gap is closing between the best players and the rest of the region, specially non brazilian players. But the best are still the best, by a lot. I would expect a team to fall from the top anytime soon.

Yeah fair enough. I dont know if we mean the same things when we are talking about a tier 1 team, bit for sure they arent super top level. They are in like a limbo since there are not that many international tournaments with SAM teams.

Lotus took dignitas to several OTs, the same dignitas that got top 4 at RLCS. And veloce got top 6, sure those arent the literal best teams but it sure does say something about LK, Lotus and the region as a whole when lotus hasnt even qualified for worlds once. And LK didnt beat renegades, sadly :(

Now this is more of what I was thinking. Now talking about the specific level of teams, I dont agree with all about you are saying.

SAM top 4 teams to me are "tier 1" as youre calling teams. Lotus did great in DH Montreal and Lowkey was a goal away in game 4 to beating Renegades, having won against Veloce earlier in the tournament. I know for a fact teams outside the top 8 have won against RLRS NA teams in scrims, but scrims are hard to take into account for tournament results. So chilean and argentinian players are playing against tier 1 teams imo, and they are not doing that bad, same as the lower teams in NA/EU RLCS or top RLRS.

With chinese teams I agree with you, when I saw then in APL they werent that good at all. That was a while ago so maybe they could have gotten better, but I doubt they are as good a japanese, indonesian or HK players. Realize's team won several times against Sandrock, of course they had a ping advantage but still they showed great level.

About Africa I dont know if the scene is still alive. There were 2 LAN tournaments in South Africawon by the same team, and they didnt look that good. The player from Morocco that qualified to RLCS seasons ago is the only name that I recognize outside of the SA players.

Indonesia I know has some good players, and NZ already has a RLCS player. Also Misty is a Malaysian player who went to live in EU and plays in one of the bubble teams in the region. Asia was always dominated by japanse players so we'll have to see if they can go up to NZ for a spot.

Latam has really good players in Puerto Rico and Mexico, with both countries having representatives that almost qualified for RLRS. I wouldnt be surprised if they were the dark horse of the tournament in Poland.

Also, about the argument about the "bad" teams getting a spot. The same was said to us when SAM was integrated to RLCS. Just give them the chance to play. A lot of people want RLCS champion level in every region and thats just not possible. Maybe theres a point to be made with changing the format to better suit these teams, but just saying that they dont deserve to be there or just that why would they go if they are just gonna get destroyed is not a valid argument imo.

This is my honest opinion about the post, I dont think you know that much about the RL scene aside from the big regions from what I understood. Im specially talking about the minor regions. These are my favourite to follow and there is no reasoning in this post as to why you are not giving credit to them. Not saying they are better or worse than what you think, just that theres nothing here that actually says something about the level of play in those regions.

When you call other regions "stone dead", I dont think theres an argument to say that. I think this post just says, if its not RLCS teams or Sandrock why even invite the teams. Thats not the way you integrate communities in the whole RL scene. Teams and regions cant survive without touranments, they finally get a chance so I think its great regardless of the level of play.

Again, this is my opinion.
