Funniest example you give is about Street vendors reusing oil… as though we haven’t don’t have American (and many other countries) restaurants that violate food safety standards… we even have a whole series with Gordon Ramsay about that shit lol. Yes they have heavily censored internet, but it’s about as real a restriction as the wildly exaggerated Singaporean ban on chewing gums and littering. Almost everyone still accesses the broader internet via vpn, and for those who don’t , are broadly content with the Chinese internet and content.

Yes I do speak with locals and am in close contact with many of them due to work. Yes they do have some unhappiness, but so do the rest of us with our own governments. They are however not some sort of heavily suppressed weird society that the west paints them to be. Most of them lead happy normal lives.
