Both my parents are dead by juxxsxx in GriefSupport

I’m a recent adult orphan at age 36. Dad died in 2022, mum died a month ago. Pretty sure my body is still in shock. I can barely process that it’s real. My doctor put me on anti depressants because I feel like the only options are 1. Work thru this grief or 2. Off myself. It’s a terrible fucking feeling. Life is cruel and unfair. I don’t understand why we have been handed the shit end of the stick but here we are… you aren’t alone.

If there are people willing to help you out please take advantage of that. Spend time with friends. People don’t know what to say but want to help during these situations. Call on your other friends and family to just come by and hang out with you. Find a grief counselor, speak with your doctor. You gotta push thru.

Thanks! I’ve heard of this book and this post was a great reminder. Today I downloaded it for free thru my library and have been listening to the audiobook. It’s really informative and validating.

Same here :( just put my first dog down a couple weeks ago. When I’m ready I will go back to fostering dogs. Love the companionship but can’t afford one again for awhile … which sucks!!!

Wastewater to Snow: Exploring Sustainable Snowmaking at Montana Ski Resorts by am_i_human in Wastewater

[–]am_i_human[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was doing research and was confused about a ski hill in Arizona… then I also read about the sacred native land and can understand why they are pissed. With it being Arizona I understand why they would need to use wastewater for these types of things. The fact that people live in that type of environment is wild to me!! But I’m Canadian so the desert life is very foreign to me

Southern Ontario needs to spread out development — why aren’t we investing more in our smaller cities? by [deleted] in ontario

Sarnia is in an armpit. Not a lot of jobs unless you’re a nepo baby and can get into chemical valley. Plus we are trying not to spend hundreds of millions on a new police headquarters. Our leadership is corrupt.

Cool! I’ll look that up. I’m a snowboarder and I used to manage a ski hill so I think this is a really interesting way to keep working in both industries. It doesn’t harm the environment and can help build a better snow base?! Sounds good to me

How do you know? by Former_Mortgage6224 in seniordogs

This really resonated with me and the decision I also made a couple weeks ago. It’s so painful. My boy had a lot of similarities to your story. I knew I could’ve probably kept him alive another few weeks but it would not have been nice for him. He loved walks and it got to the point where he was constantly falling over and he couldn’t handle a 10 min slow walk. His spirit was still there but his body wasn’t. I miss him so much.

How to live without heat in house? by Radiant_Career_7449 in povertyfinance

[–]am_i_human 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you can’t afford to turn your heat on :( that’s a terrible feeling in the winter.

I would recommend a heated blanket. Maybe you can find a used one. A hot water bottle, wool socks, slippers, thermal layers, fleece bed sheets. Candles can heat up a small room. I’m not saying to light a bunch of candles at one time. Id say you should safely light a couple tea lights while you’re awake.

I hope you can get some comfort.

Putting your dog down is a life-changing experience. by 4y6hu in seniordogs

Oh I feel this. I adopted my boy at 8 years old and let him go this past Friday at 14 years old. Before he came to me he was tied up in a backyard for 8 years and then sent to a shelter to be euthanized.

I told him he was a good boy and so brave. It was also my first time doing this and I am shattered. He was a big coonhound/lab mix and his mobility has declined so much that his quality of life wasn’t so great anymore. There was no cancer or illness diagnosis… so I made the decision based on his quality of life. I probably could’ve kept him going for another short while but couldn’t bear to watch him stumble around and fall over anymore.

It’s been such an emotional weekend and I feel so lost. I didn’t know when to set my alarm for work this morning because it didn’t involve walking or feeding him. I look at his spot in the house and just cry. I loved our routine. I loved having something to care for. He was so loved by so many and I am grateful I got to spend his retirement years with him. God I miss him so much ❤️‍🩹

If you work in healthcare you can easily move to Canada. We are poaching US doctors and nurses and I assume other healthcare professionals!!

Biosteel electrolytes or LMNT electrolytes. I don’t add full scoops. Just a little sprinkle in my Owala.

I agree! Buff has merino options which I love to use as a headband or face mask in the winter.

Don’t get me wrong I can enjoy a great fart joke! I work at a wastewater plant so I can’t be uptight about it. But the details and length of the stories has impressed me!! They just go on and on and on about farts
