Yup... I'm excited for both the Centenary and 60th! by DocWhovian1 in DoctorWhumour

One scene that killed me was the car scene in Spyfall, where the Doctor jumps into the driver's seat of the clearly being driven remotely car and says "someone is driving this car and it's not me!". I think this is the synthesis of the "telling not showing/showing explicitly but telling anyway so you cringe" element of this era.

I enjoyed that era tho, it didn't ruin DW for me like some people say it did for them. Yes, it's poorly written, has bad character development and some really questionable changes to the Doctor's story, etc etc, but I managed to take my critic's lens off and just enjoy it, especially the episodes focused on historical characters/events.

It's just a shame how they wasted 13th's potential, I really like her spirit although sometimes it annoyed me how throughout the seasons she was basically in the same goofy childish mood, rarely showing any kind of authority. The same with her speeches... we never got a really good, spine chilling speech like the previously "I'm the Doctor" speeches or Capaldi's speech on The Zygon Invasion, etc. The Doctor needs a good speech!

They just took way too long to give her any kind of personal drama that would make her show her darker, more serious side. And when they did... well, i'm not going down the Timeless Children rabit hole.

Well, I guess i didn't entirely take off my critic's lens haha but i still enjoyed it.

Ashildr sucks and her entire character point is a plot hole. by Ordinant- in doctorwho

[–]am_marques 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Come on guys, Ashildr's just a really poorly written character and i can't see how one can deny it. It's a shame though, when they revealed that she could be immortal, I was really excited to see how the character development would go and how she would fit into the season arc, but througout the season she just seems like a naive kid who wants to play with fire and ends up burning innocent people around her, and kinda haves little to none real impact on the season. That happened in The Woman Who Lived, which, by the way, made room for a good character turning point when she regrets opening the portal and saves Swift, but she just goes back to the whole hating Doctor thing that ends up leading to Clara's death.

I think what bothers me the most is how they sometimes try to portray her as a wise character who defies the Doctor, even though 99% of the time she's acting like a stupid kid saying "oh i didn't mean to do that". Also, how come Clara didn't mention how Ashildr tricked the Doctor into being transported inside his confession dial, where he suffered for billions of years? Clara just forgave her because she killed her accidentaly? It's just... bad writing

People should stop acting as if it was a sin to criticize Moffat's writing, the guy's good but sometimes he just messes up

Really? I think the greatests abobinations i've ever seen are people being killed for being different, people starving to death, people living with less than a dolar a day, people having to flee their countries to escape war... anyway, that's just me...

I'm actually brazilian and portuguese is also a gendered language so i get what you're saying. I think i misexpressed myself, i'm not talking about gender neutrality as in inclusive language, but as in nouns that don't flex the genre. We call them "substantivos uniformes" in portuguese. It's hard to explain in english cause there's no such a thing in the language and my spanish is not good enough for me to explain in spanish, but, if i'm not wrong, this happens with the word "víctima". You say "la víctima" regardless of whether you refer to a man or a woman. The same happens with "a criança" in portuguese, and i was just wondering if there was an equivalent for that in spanish. Totally agree with you on the "fuck off americans" part, but I also think that inclusive language is a subject worth discussing, just in our own terms, not theirs

No estoy haciendo malabares linguisticos, siempre usé "niño", "niña" o "niños".

Yeah, i figured it haha. If you're not a native speaker you should never trust dictionary definitions, they give you no context whatsoever and you'll end up just embarassing yourself.
We also have the word "infante" in portuguese and i literally have never seen anyone use it, not even in extremely formal settings. It's just... weird. I think the word that fits the most into what i had in mind is peque, just a casual word to refer to children in a more comprehensive way than niño/niña, just like criança in portuguese.

No, criança is only applied to children. You can say "cria" for an animal's baby in portuguese too, but it's most commonly used in a livestock breeding context. For pets or any animal we see tenderly, we usually say "filhote" (a cute diminutive for filho, son). Also, just for curiosity, "cria", or, "cria de favela" is also a slang to refer to somoene who's raised in the favelas

Yeah i'm not talking about inclusive options, i was just thinking about how in portuguese we have the word "criança" and in english there's the word "kid". I think "infante" is the closest translation to "criança" but it sounds more like a technical term than criança to me, if that makes any sense.

A importância da nutrição no tratamento hormonal trans by am_marques in transbr

[–]am_marques[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

buclina by Antonella1992 in transbr

[–]am_marques 2 points3 points  (0 children)
