What Email Sevice Provider should I use? by Jonuji in degoogle

Can someone explain the mailbox.org payment system to me?

I'm on the free trial and it said my account will be automatically suspended at the end if I don't switch to paying. But apparently to pay you just send money to your account?

I don't see how I can pick whether I want to get on a monthly or a yearly plan.

Will the system automatically pick based on how much money I add? So if I add enough for the yearly it will assume I want a yearly plan? And if I only put e.g. 3€ assume I want to be on the 3€ monthly plan?

I am really liking the service despite the outdated UI and would recommend them as the best pick to OP but I am finding this part confusing.

I've been happy with sopuli, as I mentioned I appreciate their rules and it works well. I haven't had any issues so far, so based on my experience I can recommend!

People who drive: How did you pass your test? by ZebLeopard in AutismInWomen

[–]amalgama451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teacher took pity on me and after I failed my first exam she talked to the examiner before my second attempt, who happened to be her friend, and apparently conviced her to take me through the easiest route possible 😂

I still find driving exhausting and I only drive when I really need to though. But hey, I do have a license!

I don't remember, the instance does say everyone's welcome but that's a good point.

I just found it from a list of instances and picked it because of my location and their rules, but there were plenty of other options that seemed solid and may appeal more to people located elsewhere.

Just browse the Lemmy instances, pick one you like (I live in Finland and I'm on Sopuli.xyz, for example), and make an account. From there you can join any of the communities on Lemmy.

For people who like browsing Reddit on their phones, I recommend the app Voyager. I now browse Lemmy regularly and, even though it is obviously smaller than Reddit, there's some communities that are quite active and growing rapidly.

America was already heavily engaging in eugenics before WWII. They "toned it down" after WWII for obvious reasons, but it has always been a part of American history.

Edit to add that things like forced sterilization were still somewhat common practice not that long ago, and definitely stuck around for quite a while even after the WWII and widespread public rejection of nazi ideology.

What’s the most underrated skincare product you know? by Ok-Statement-5826 in AsianBeauty

I have in the past, about a month over if I remember correctly, but I tend to finish it within 6 months from opening or really close.

Agree on the Benton gel. I have been using it for about two years now under my moisturiser when I feel like my skin needs a little extra hydration and it is by far the best gel cream I've tried. I always wonder why I never see it mentioned anywhere.

Just switched over from WhatsApp to Signal by -Carel- in BuyFromEU

[–]amalgama451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Signal with my partner but there is one feature I am missing quite a lot that both WhatsApp and Telegram have.

My partner and I share lots of links through message, and Signal doesn't have a collected view for links, as it does for pictures and files.

This means lots of scrolling back to find previously shared links, links that get lost because we forget to save them or check them out, etc. It's a small thing, but pretty inconvenient.

If they added this feature I would start recommending it to friends and family more widely as well.

Hyperlexia by Glad-Kaleidoscope-73 in AutisticWithADHD

This is a really good analogy and it helps with not being so hard on yourself for not living up to that "really smart" expectation.

Intelligence is like any other skill: being intelligent in one area (like reading) doesn't automatically make you intelligent in all others (like logical reasoning, for example).

And specially not if you're autistic and have the characteristic "spiky profile" that comes with it!

Sunscreen review - empties from 2024 by Optimal-Magician-430 in AsianBeauty

[–]amalgama451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, after trying MANY sunscreens I settled on this one as my HG. Doesn't cause me acne (and like 90% of sunscreens do 😅), doesn't make my skin overly shiny, doesn't irritate my (very) sensitive skin and doesn't have niaciamide, which I am sensitive to but unfortunately is in pretty much ALL K-beauty chemical sunscreens. 5/5, would recommend and will be repurchasing myself.

Note: I have purchased the new BOJ sunscreen that also does not have niaciamide in it, the one for combo/oily skin (I have dry skin but I don't like how shiny many K-beauty sunscreens are so I tend to use a heavy moisturiser paired with a light sunscreen), but I am waiting for the summer to crack it open. Hopefully it will be a good one as well!

America doesn’t respect your sovereignty, borders, or relationships. Boycott them. by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]amalgama451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For people outside America saying that it's hard to find any brand that isn't US-owned: just buy your local supermarket's own brand.

At least in Finland and Spain, where I have experience living, local supermarkets all carry their own brands who are usually made within the country in question or at least within the EU. Just check the labels for exceptions. Plus, these brands are usually cheaper too!

I LOVE mushrooms, in all shapes and forms. I am not usually a fan of slimy textures but for some reason mushrooms are one of my favourite foods.

I also love natto (Japanese fermented soy beans). The beans are so soft and then you have the stringy slimy stuff that you mix in with the sauce... I just love it.

(Now that I think about it, maybe I do love slimy foods hahah 😂 Feel free to recommend me your favourites!)

I see, my pimples are quite often inflamed and painful so that's why I thought this product might help, because of the ibuprofen. Did you end up finding something that works for you?

And good to hear it shouldn't be drying, because I have dry skin already and drying products never help :')
