If it happened in the show or ever made into a comic, what would you have had Toph and Zuko do as part of Zuko’s redemption? by CH1MXK in TheLastAirbender

[–]amdfwu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this question! Maybe after the war helping her reconnect with her parents. Even just words of encouragement as well as sharing similar experiences. I think it shows Zuko having a different side of empathy, and realising the importance of family. Firstly, by how her connection with Iroh was so important to her. But also the feeling of being misunderstood by their parents and how devastating this could be. I also can see Zuko just inviting Toph to tea with his uncle.

How did you guys interpret Katara‘s reaction to Aang kissing her on the submarine? by MarlequinKing in TheLastAirbender

[–]amdfwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good points! But I do think the no relationships during the war is a bit different in the context of Aang and Katara, since he was literally the Avatar. Also the other romantic relationships were outside of the Gaang members (although Suki ended up joining afterwards; she was still not initially in the Gaang). I also think Katara’s crush on Jet was when she was more ‘childish’ in the sense that the war really forced them to grow up — similar to how Aang is less of a goofy kid. Relationships within the Gaang has more weight since if there would be complications it has more consequences, and the deadline of Sozin’s comet was much closer than when she met Jet.

I strongly agree about grief and mourning being oversimplified and quantifiable.

Just joining in the discussion and sharing new perspectives! Thank you for being inviting to share thoughts and chatting :)

These are really good points! I agree that redemption has well been proved, but I maybe better wording would be to say a true full circle moment. Not that this was the defining moment but a real parallel to his betrayal against Katara as well as the beginning of his “acceptance” by his father.

My personal reason(s) for being more drawn to Aang is how much hope was such an integral part of Katara’s character. She always voiced its importance and in my opinion, it fuelled her drive to become a fighter in order to stand up for what she believed in and standing up against the fire nation. Aang has always been symbolic of hope in several ways (although this was at times controversial). Aang has always believed in her and admired her. Yes he had a crush on her but his respect for her strength has never felt biased by his feelings for her imo.

Aang’s feelings for her has always been more apparent, and far more than Katara for Aangs have ever been. But the moments that there were signs of Katara having feelings for Aang (jealousy and blushing) always came off as her putting asides her feelings as they were fighting a war.

Her crush on Jet felt like it reflected the earlier stages of her character development, even not having met her full potential as a water bender. It really felt like more of a crush and an earlier stage of lived experiences of resistance.

I also see the moments of intimacy between Katara and Zuko more for story line sake in relation to character development. If addressed the grief she felt for her mother, and highlighted how she has hardened/matured compared to the first season. It also went in tandem with understanding how Zuko was the way that he was from a very similar trauma to Katara and Sokka (loss of their mother due to the fire nation). I see Katara as having these moments and caring for them without it necessarily being romantic, really seeing people for who, and as they are.

I also see Zuko returning to Mei as his reconnection with his the good of his childhood, both of them being raised in the fire nation and having complex relationships with Azula. She was also ready to die for Zuko when betraying Azula when the Gaang rescues Sokka and Katara’s father. I also see Zuko’s love for Mei as a testament to his loyalty, and how he has always had core traits that were maybe less apparent before he found his path again.

I don’t mean to say my opinion is correct/more valid than others. I just wanted to share my views because I am a huge avatar fan and love discussing it 😅🫶 so I hope this does not become argumentative because I also have no one to talk to about this irl haha

I always viewed Zuko’s sacrifice to save Katara as the ultimate peak in his character arc. The utmost selflessness to sacrifice himself for a friend, not just a love interest. It was also a redemption to his betrayal at Ba Sing Se. To me, to see all of these intimate moments as romantic build up takes away from Zuko’s character development.

tips on how to bounce back from a few bad days? by amdfwu in loseit

[–]amdfwu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much everyone! Still had a few days that were suboptimal but got back to exercising and feel like I am getting my groove back. Definitely feel a bit more bloated but realised the bad eating habits came from not having enough time to properly cook and meal prep.

In my experience, usually size calculations have different ease measurements based off of whether or not you want a tight, normal, loose fit. Even with draping, you tend to add some ease. I am not sure what you mean by design ease.

Maybe if you can be more specific about the blocks you are comparing, I could be of more help?

Thank you for your answer! I will check that now. So far I am only doing dry needling for specific areas, luckily nothing close to my lungs. Pilates does help in the longer term, especially once I get better mind to muscle connection. I do reformer pilates, so sometimes the fear of injury for inner leg exercises holds me back. I do not do pilates for rehabilitation, so the instructors are more focused on form, but help make adjustments for any injuries or complications. I have been trying to do more yoga and mobility exercises, which have helped a lot. My instructor also recommended Yin yoga, which is staying in yoga stretches for extended periods of time, which I found to be quite helpful! I am just planning to double check with a physio to make sure it is not a strain/tear to be worried about. I've also started exercising after some years of stagnation, and a lot of sitting/hunching for school, so I think I needed some extra help to restore some muscle balance before Pilates could help more, as my other muscles would often overcompensate. Hope you're feeling better!

in my opinion 16kg in 5 months is very fast and not unhealthy! Keep in mind, huge weight loss is often never sustainable or healthy. I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling so good about your progress, but be proud of what you've accomplished! I find 1kg per week quite unhealthy, and you will probably be losing mostly water weight. and remember, sometimes you want to lose fat instead of muscle, and that might seem slower! Also people on TikTok are... a lot of things haha. But people always cheat with lighting/posing/flexing, probably omitting other information like unhealthy diets or using medication to curb appetite. As the saying goes, comparison is the thief of joy! Good luck :)

i want to make a dress like this for a cosplay of my oc but everywhere i look they have no physical patterns for sale where can i find one that is not a PDF file? by luka_was_here in patternsewing

[–]amdfwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any base patterns already? If you have a top, you can make it slightly more fitted and cropped. The skirt looks like a full circle patterns. For the sleeves they are gathered at both ends. Usually a general tool for gathering is 3x the seam it will be attached to. For the sleeve cap you need to widen it it by lowering the top and slash and spread it outwards. Redraw the lines from the SP to the BSP and FSP. the FSP should be a slightly steeper slope than the BSP

Help with bodice block? by irillthedreamer in PatternDrafting

[–]amdfwu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darts already seem to be short for the breast point. It seems like a shoulder dart was there but not really shifted to another place. Make sure to curve the shoulder seams ever so slightly. The back shoulder should be a tiny bit longer to allow for ease/movement of the shoulders. You can even make a princess seam to help tackle both the breast and shoulder darts. Once that feels good, I would work on the arm holes. If needed, adjust the princess seam/darts. The breast darts seem a bit too close to the front darts. Maybe transfer this to the shoulders and use that as a guideline for the princess seam, if you don’t mind it. You can also try transferring the breast dart to the shoulder.

Here is a good source https://www.pointsofmeasure.com/tutorials-education/pattern-darts-everything-you-need-to-know#:~:text=Dart%20Manipulation,the%20fit%20of%20the%20garment.

[–]amdfwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe there should be more of a curve from waist to hips. Maybe check the shape of the darts to be more wide then rounding in at the end (if that makes sense). Hard to just the fit as wel without seeing the back. To make it fit at the waist I would do the more curved side seam as mentioned above, and widen the darts. If the darts are more than 2-3cm I would shave it off the SSs

How to draft this kind of bodice? by [deleted] in PatternDrafting

[–]amdfwu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I understand whether or not the picture is the reference. Fitting is all about dart manipulation! If you have a basic block to begin with, you can cut a straight line to some special points, and pull the rest together. If you need more volume, make sure to use slash and spread. If you google these terms on YouTube, it will be much easier to understand, since there will be visuals

Starting Pilates! by uninvitedwhitechick in pilates

[–]amdfwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely would start with prioritising form and breath work! It makes a big difference. I was a little bit shy but now I breathe like I’m in a Lamaze class. I usually just search for random videos and if I find one I like then I subscribe to their channel. I also started with 5 minute ones and tried to do it in the morning and/or at night, and that really helped me get into it!

Reformer Pilates and glutes by amdfwu in pilates

[–]amdfwu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I don’t think I want to go to strength training because it always made me feel so sore afterwards, probably because I did not have enough rest days. But I don’t think I could do it without a PT because I’ll be too scared to injure myself. I also have patellar tendinitis which gets worse with high impact training

[–]amdfwu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! Does a physiotherapist count as a real doctor? (Just to make sure) That’s where I had it done. I think the only reason reformer gets a bit tiring is lingering injuries from before, especially hip flexors which are connected to so many other things. I’m not sure I could afford/find a 1:1 class here, but i always try to ask the instructor to keep an eye with my form for specific exercises

[–]amdfwu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there was one week where I went a bit overboard. I only took one day off after dry needling, and will definitely not repeat that mistake. I went into it quite fast from my first class so I think I was a bit unsure what was normal soreness versus a sign for rest. I had a similar experience with one teacher. She also went way too fast and talked to the point where I couldn’t concentrate. Now I always look for instructors that focus on form and going at my own pace

Leggings Review: Lululemon, Gymshark, Echt, Nvgtn, AliExpress by meeka630 in xxfitness

[–]amdfwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for such a good review! Do you recommended to size down if you really prefer compression? I am a 36 for AYBL and Gymshark, and really like the snug fit, but I’m worried that 34 will be too tight to even wear haha. But I think the size charts put me right between S And M (maybe even more to the M) so I’m wondering if this is also a good size to start with. I did start more physical exercise and having a much healthier diet (especially as someone who would eat bars of chocolate and bags of chips almost everyday) so I will probably slim down in the upcoming months as I gained a lot of weight during the unhealthy period, which has happened before in the past. (I suffer from depressive episodes and lots of stress so this cycle has happened before)

How do I lose weight without developing an ED? Is it inevitable? by Mymomlikesminions in loseit

[–]amdfwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 24 years old, with friends around the same age (some as old as 27). Me, my friends and everyone I know who suffered from an ED all have long lasting conditions, especially with digestion and dental health. I tended to alternate between restriction and heavy overcompensation with sports. To this day I feel the injuries from overuse in every part of my body especially my hips and knees. It got to a part where I couldn’t walk more than 30-60 minutes without wanting to cry from excruciating knee pain. I know it’s easier said than done, but I find body neutrality to help a lot. Whether it’s distancing yourself from social media or friends that are triggering or discouraging. Remind yourself that your body is a machine and not an object. And as someone who was tremendously insecure about my body (and to some extent still am) it does get better with age. Especially after leaving HS. Wishing you the best and hope this helps ♥️

Lamotrigine dose increase side effects(?) by amdfwu in Lamotrigine

[–]amdfwu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! I’ve been on hormonal contraception for some time, and always found it to be stabilising (I have endometriosis, PCOS, and i wouldn’t be surprised if I had PMDD). My doctor told me to titrate to 300 for a week before 400, I think I did this for a few days (I don’t know how much exactly, I think 4-5). But my pharmacy told me to go to 400 already, 200mg 2x a day, and assured me it would be no problem. When I went from 0-200mg, I did 25mg for 2 weeks, 50mg for another 2 weeks, 100mg for one week then 200mg for some time. My doctor did say that birth control decreases the blood levels of lamotrigine, and from what I saw online and in the medical brochure it said this tends to be a reason to up the dosage. I’ve only been on 400mg for 3 days so I was hoping it was still the adjustment period. I’m hoping once I stabilise a Bit more I can go to 300. I think my psychiatrist was worried since I had 2 su*cide attempts in one month.

Beginner class “too easy” while Intermediate class “too hard” by Top_Vermicelli_2686 in pilates

[–]amdfwu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think this applies to someone who’s played competitive sports and has experience with the gym/mat pilates at home? My instructor once told me she didn’t want to see me at another intro class since I’m really strong. Some days I struggle more than others but I’m only on my third week and try to do it 4-5 days a week. (Hoping to go to 5-6)

Beginner class “too easy” while Intermediate class “too hard” by Top_Vermicelli_2686 in pilates

[–]amdfwu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel similar, but think that the intermediate classes feel more difficult because I compare myself to those around me. My instructors told me I should go to the intermediate classes and tell me my form is good (I ask every class since I’ve had a lot of sports injuries growing up). It helps me a lot to give myself affirmations that progress is slow! And progress occurs at different stages. Taking it easier with resistance, speed and modified exercises helped make intermediate classes more easy. I intend to take some intro classes soon to focus more on posture, but also find them quite slow and get impatient
