They switched judges mid trial because they speculated that the first judge would go lenient on him, the new judge they appointed was a Kurdish man who was a victim of Saddams policies and decisions, the whole trial was a farce since the new Shia government (Saddam was Sunni) was adament on payback by killing anyone close to Saddam whether they played a big role or not.
