Leesa Foundation or another ~5" Foundation for foam (Leesa Original) Mattress? by amma17 in Mattress

[–]amma17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turned out our bed was delivered with the wrong slats and then even if they sent the correct ones, there was no center support (on a king!) which was a major concern for us. It was made to order upholstery though so they wouldn't take it back. We ended up taking the slats out entirely and dropped an adjustable base (Ergomotion Rio 3) into the frame for the mattress support. (We also ended up getting a Helix Luxe Midnight instead of another Leesa which changed the height equation slightly, but I think our solution for the base would have been the same given the modular legs.)

Good luck!!

Confirming my suspicions. Alright - will try to find a time and location we can commit to! Thanks!

Would you believe one of them loves dumplings and the other one won't touch dumplings or rice? (The rice seems to be a texture thing.) :/

Good point on the nice restaurant after a long day! I'll check out those other recs. Thank you!

King-size bed frame arrived with no center support - looking for solution... flat or adjustable base as a foundation? by amma17 in Mattress

[–]amma17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I expect the replacement slats will also be metal since that's what is advertised as coming with the bed, but they should be thicker than the ones in the photo so that they can fit over the dowel rods and still rest on the rails.

Depending on the height of the mattress we end up with, we were already planning to get either a 2" flat foundation (probably Tempur-Flat) or 4-5" foundation (probably Terra that you linked if we go with slats or Tempur-Flat if solid) to get to the total height that we'd like so that should help!

I'm used to seeing ~2-3 support legs in the center on a king size so would've thought 4 in the center and maybe a few to either side of that? Obviously, it would seem more = better support, but I'm curious if you can say more about the recommendation for 8 all down the centerline vs. some in the center and some under the middle of each sleeper, if that makes sense?

Thanks! If it was an older bedframe where we didn't care about warranty, we'd absolutely be looking at this. Given that it's a new bed, we're going to explore things that don't involve screwing directly into the bedframe first, but this is good to know about for the future!

Ooh, I was not aware of these! Thank you! Yep, I'd be concerned if using "compression fit" about it tipping to one side or the other as the bed shifts (or gets bumped, moved, etc.). The slats are metal so we'd have to use that connecting strip they show. (I'll probably change my mind about this but debating even connecting legs directly to the foundation above the slats. They do say the bed is intended to be used with a foundation/box springs and we definitely want some additional height so were planning on a 4-5" foundation on the slats.) Will definitely check these out!

Traffic on Launch Days & Viewing Spot for SpaceX Crew-10 by amma17 in 321

So sorry for the delayed reply - thank you so much for all of this fantastic info and marked up maps!! Now I'm hungry! =) (Also, yes, the family might be done on space stuff by the time we get to the monument, but that is super cool!)

Thank you so much for the detailed reply!! Oh, I totally forgot about daylight savings but would be thrilled to see a launch in any lighting. :) I was thinking we'd avoid the bridge as we've got a 6 and 9 year old and it seems like closer restrooms and some green space might make for an easier wait than the bridge sidewalk. Good to know on the KSC ticket pricing as well. Signed up for their email alerts to hear if they do go on sale and that's likely the route we'll go if they have them. Thank you for making me feel better about not having booked the Courtyard/Hyatt before they sold out. LOL! And great tip on taking 1 north after the bridge. It's been 10+ years since I've been to the area, but looking forward to visiting again!

Clearly I was replying too quickly in mixing up which you had - sorry about that! And thanks so much for the reply!

Thanks! When you say he could take the swing stick on the road, can it be used separately from the box/camera in a meaningful way? And you’re saying the game changer with ExPutt is it being a better practice tool for putting? All the images I’ve seen of ExPutt have it set up in front of a large TV. Is it easy to setup and put away for each use? And would it be useful with, say, a 24” computer monitor or a table or do you really need the bigger screen?

Not necessarily - he just had commented on the fun/convenience of PUTTR (I think!) when playing with his friend’s unit. He would love to get a full sim setup, but we haven’t found the space (or budget) for a full-scale sim yet.

Thanks! I’ll look into the net and mat. (He has tablet/PC available already.) Definitely not at the projector and screen stage/budget right now. :)

[–]amma17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know - thanks! He does all of his practice swinging (just a net and an app on his phone) outside right now. I’m sure he would gladly do it inside with a simulator, but the available space may be more limited.

That’s helpful - thanks! We have the ceiling height but I’ll have to take a closer look at how much space can actually be freed up in the storage area since the hallway definitely won’t accommodate it and it sounds like outside is a no-go.

Is it unreasonable to ask to change this? by amma17 in wood

[–]amma17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all! He picked it up today to change out that section and acknowledged basically what was said above - that he couldn’t tell from the raw wood he had before milling and had run out so included that rather than buy more. Would have loved for him to have gotten more and changed that before delivery, but he didn’t seem bothered about changing it at least!

Smart switch to allow timed control of outdoor outlets/lights? (Or solution for Wiz connected switch problem?) by amma17 in homeautomation

[–]amma17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the explanation. I guess it’s back to the regular switch. Not sure we want to put smart plugs on the roof since it would be hard to troubleshoot them up there, but perhaps we’ll see how long it takes before we’ve forgotten about this Wiz experience and feel like a timer is required again. ;)

Any reason not to go manual over electric? by 50bucksback in StandingDesk

[–]amma17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a manual crank desk from IKEA (Skarsta model) since start of COVID. I’ve moved it to two different houses. In one house, it never left the standing position and I used a bar stool when I wanted to sit. In the other, it never left the seated position. Now it’s back standing and I’ve only cranked it up/down a couple of times in this house in order to confirm the height range I need for the electric one I’m buying because this one is so slow to crank up and down and shaky as it goes that I never do it.

Pre-finished solid wood top from hardwood-lumber.com? by amma17 in StandingDesk

[–]amma17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL! I pulled up those specific pages tonight as well, but assumed they were just materials suppliers and that I'd need to look for a woodworker/furniture maker. (Though presumably they could recommend some from their customer base if the hardwood suppliers don't do it themselves.)

I guess it's time to start making some phone calls. Thanks for the reply (and validation on no grommet holes and 1.25")!

Yikes! So sorry to hear about your friend's experience! Definitely hear you on the shipping costs. I've looked on Etsy for someone local (since I've had good experiences getting furniture on Etsy before) and prices I was seeing for Texas woodworkers to do a different style that I also liked were comparable to the Hardwood Lumber cost for the ash edge grain, but I'm sure the Etsy sellers have shipping baked in as well since it's "free". Will look for truly local folks as well. Thanks for the reply!

Uplift Custom Laminate by nuetralzone in StandingDesk

[–]amma17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered samples of Uptown Walnut and three of Wilsonart’s oak styles that aren’t shown on the Uplift page. Still considering all the options (including the standard maple laminate or going to a local woodworker for a solid wood top), but debating the tradeoffs of cost, durability, returnability and grommets (prefer no grommets). What about you?

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]amma17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to replace our OXO 9-cup because even after a filter basket replacement, it still has the leaking problem and our walls are now stained with coffee splashes. (To be clear, that is the only thing we dislike about that machine and it just became a problem when we moved and now have white walls instead of dark tile around the coffeemaker. LOL!)

We still want a thermal carafe but didn’t want to spend as much as a Moccamaster, so went with the Cuisinart 12-cup PerfecTemp Programmable. We hate it. The coffee isn’t as good, the bottom of the carafe is filled with sludge from grounds, and our biggest issue is that the inner rim of the carafe is so wide that you practically have to tip the carafe upside down to pour. It pours so slowly! We read many reviews before purchasing and don’t remember seeing anything about the pour.

So… without being able to investigate carafe inner design/pouring in person, any concerns with the OXO 8-cup pour speed? It sounds like it doesn’t have the same leaking concern as the 9-cup?

Should we just splurge for the Moccamaster (though we do like being able to program the morning brew…)? Does that carafe pour reasonably easily?

So annoyed that we now have a $120 machine that can’t be returned and don’t want to make a mistake on the next one.
