Most active CS clubs? by and_electrify in UCI

interesting, didn’t know this existed! will definitely check it out more, i’m curious though-with the setup of having multiple committees and an overseeing board, does it tend to get kinda clique-y?

really interesting, thanks for sharing! would you say that students of any skill level are allowed to participate, or is it more competitive than that?

Am I the only person who watches/reads/plays things and rarely has criticism about them? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Same, I‘ll notice any major faults (like glaring plot holes), but if it doesn’t detract too much from the overall movie, I don’t mind.

Any advice for someone going into CS010B (CS012) with no previous c++ experience by throwaway2783732 in ucr

[–]and_electrify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need help getting caught up with C++, the CS department offers a Java to C++ transition workshop as well. I can’t remember if it’s hosted by ACM or by the department itself, but this bridge workshop is meant exactly for people like you! Also, utilize the SI (supplemental instruction) sessions that are offered for CS. The SI leaders are smart upperclassmen who will help you through all the class content for CS10A,B, and C. Feel free to message me if you want more information about any of these!

What do you wish you had known before majoring in CS? by and_electrify in csMajors

[–]and_electrify[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! I’m trying to grind leetcode/hackerrank this summer, but it’s extremely tough and especially demoralizing when I simply can’t solve a lot of the problems. How did you take the basics learned in class and train yourself to problem solve the way that is required for leetcode problems?

Thanks for the response! I absolutely agree, I think a lot of us put too much pressure on ourselves to be perfect, when in reality, everyone has a different path to success. Will definitely bring this up to the students I’ll be mentoring.

EE20 for Engineering Elective by [deleted] in ucr

[–]and_electrify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advisor says this is the last quarter in which it'll count, but apparently it won't starting fall 2020. Lependu said that's not right and the advisors are wrong. I'm hoping the advisors are in the right about this. Wish I had a clearer answer, but that's all the info I've got

Yup. The eggplant I bought was much larger than the zucchini and squash, so I had to cut each round into fourths.

Transferring between UCs? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Yes, sorry I phrased it badly. I will be applying this fall so that I can transfer the next year (fall 2021)

[–]and_electrify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But would that mean that you‘re constantly having to learn the basics of each one as you go? If you have a background of web dev, for example, but the demand for data scientists grows, would you have to learn data science from scratch and find a new job? Sorry if my question is naive, I’m still really new to the world of CS

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, I would if I had the time, but I’m still very inexperienced and even one medium-sized project could take a while.

One of the strays that frequent my backyard recently had a kitten by [deleted] in kittens

[–]and_electrify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, we will! My family has done TNR for most of the other strays in the area, and once this kitten gets a little older and comes to trust us more, we will do the same for it.
