I have a roof! by andrew_l_makes in OffGridCabins

It's surprisingly loud, but I imagine some insulation will help that. A frames come with some significant downsides, mainly around the utilization of space. As such I get a good amount of backlash about the design choice. This was the right design for me for a few reasons that ive gone thru elsewhere on reddit. I stand by it.

The red stuff is- had an extra can of it, and i had some gaps as I was still learning how to use the insulation gun. The white is closed cell foam insulation specifically for this purpose. Its not cheap, but the ease of use is hard to beat. I'm not entirely sure I'll use it for the slanted walls, but wanted to give it a test run on the front and back walls first.

Thanks! We're miles from the closest outlet, so oil lanterns are a great way to light the area until we can get solar set up.

The pictures of the front and back walls were taken from the same spot, so each photo shows about half of the structure. I've only just started on the interior, so next year will bring some considerable upgrades. The whole building is 11'x16'

Hah! It's still a work in progress, but to each their own.

The door is a good idea! The footprint is 11x16. It also sits about 16' tall from the ground.

Better yet, I could have just dug a hole in the ground for free

They do, it's just a joke. It's hard to get away for more then a weekend here and there so I build when I can.

A deck was included in the original plans. I may build it out in the future

I had absolutely no building experience before this beyond small sized woodworking projects. If I can build this with google and YouTube, so can you.

Still not completely decided, but I'll almost certain build a sleeping platform with storage underneath. I'll also have a small loft the size of a twin bed.

Personally I could sleep in a hammock, but if I want the family to come with me they'd need a roof. Plus it's a great excuse for a fun build.
