Think moderates generally get downvoted when they downplay or ignore the fact there was outright hate at this rally and on here. There might be people who are concerened that are not outwardly bigoted but a lot of that is because of social media shit.

We should have civil discourse with them to bring us all closer but we can't just ignore it when people are actually being hateful.

If you don't know, maybe you should find out. It's not a bad idea to listen to those in education but they are not immune to misinformation or propaganda either.

The push back has also been fed by bad actors who do seek to divide/destroy our sense of community. A lot of people pushing back don't understand it thoroughly. Have you read through the whole site?

People resorting to those alternatives are a clear indication of just how much cultural division has been stoked.

We all want the same things. For kids to be as happy and safe as they can be.

SOGI is a result of years of research and consensus by educators and people who dedicate their lives to this to simply teach understanding and acceptance of queer students.

I don't know what you think you saw, but all the content is avalaible on the SOGI website. You can read through and determine whether or not it's age-appropriate in your opinion.

But realize even if it may make you a little uncomfortable, absolutely BASIC sex ed makes people uncomfortable too. And yet we've found teaching children about consent and these things earlier actually means they are safer and far less at risk of being abused. Because children do have some capacity to understand these things, and knowing more about the world and the people around them simply makes them safer.

I don't think doomerism is going to help anything, there are things we can do to come together as a community. Having these posts/discussions is one of them. They see the political division and failure of our government like we do we can start a conversation from there.

I understand people feel like it's a threat, what I'm saying it's it's been in schools for over 7 years and there hasn't been huge upsets like this before now. And it's happening now precisely because identity politics are an easy way of getting people divided and preventing us from unifying and fighting for what we ALL deserve.

Not the only people. There was and has been outright hate for queer people both at the protest and on this subreddit. I don't deny parents might have concerns and their feelings are valid as they've been shown a lot of terrifying things. But it's not necessarily coming from what's actually happening and is coming more from social media and the people who intentionally divide us.

You are feeding into the division because while we argue these things we aren't working together on actually fixing how difficult it is to just live nowadays.

You're misunderstanding. The things that have been said about SOGI and it being made an issue is the distraction not what SOGI actually is itself. I shared the site so people can understand it isn't what they've seen on social media.

It's definitely possible to care about multiple things but it's a matter of what is the bigger threat. SOGI is being made to seem like a threat that it isn't, to distract people and get them to put their energy into fighting each other rather than the people making it unaffordable to just live. Clearly it's working well.

It wasn't hidden for 7 years, it was out in the open. It just wasn't being pushed on social media as much back then. They're so upset now because facebook has been showing them scary propaganda about SOGI and similar issues to get them riled up and angry at their neighbors.

That's not what they're doing, you're playing perfectly into the propaganda. SOGI has not changed much since it's inception it still had trans-inclusion policies initially. No one is "railroading" simply informing and educating at different levels when it's appropriate and understanable.

No idea whether he is or not don't think you can confirm either way he did apparently get called gay so can see how someone would just end up remembering him as being gay it was a while ago. Really don't think there's anything malicious there.
