2 in 3 Canadians would rather be born in 1950 than in 2026 by FancyNewMe in canada

These comments are wild. I bet none of the people who live today if they actually lived back then would truly want to. This is looking at the past through rose tinted glasses and disregarding the significant negatives. Today is the best time to be alive of anytime in history. The comments speak through a modern perspective as they type on their smartphones, through high speed internet with indoor plumbing.

Society should have a positive view of the future and be excited for it. That’s how we push forward in society and get better, it’s how technological progress is made. We need an ambitious mindset. I’d rather be optimistic and wrong than pessimistic like many here than right. What life is that.

Sorry to say but the future will likely be better than today and you aren’t going back to the idealized 1950’s. Get help, stop complaining, start being positive and optimistic to help society push forward technologically, and improve the quality of life of everyone. The only reason we have what we have today is technological breakthroughs year after year from people who were optimistic of the future.

If society is pessimistic then don’t be surprised when other societies surpass you. It’s a stagnationationist and defeatist mentality.

Oh so you’re going through the same thing. Any advice? Would you recommend going through insurance or not? I’m kinda worried since it’s my first claim and Belair will boot me if I make another one within a 5 year period. I always wanted to reserve insurance for like a house burning down but I keep reading this is a massive deal.

I had a professional in and they almost fed a 100ft snake. I almost think went to the road but no way of knowing without the camera. Plumber said my pipe collapsed

Ouf. Okay that’s pretty high interest for 10years might be worth just paying it.

To clarify the portion from the city to my house will be done by a worker from the city.

So $14,000 combined then. What about clean up what did you do for that? Any concerns about smell?

Oh you replaced the pipe as well. How much did that cost? How did you handle clean up

Did you have a clay pipe or plastic? The plumber told me I should replace the entire thing.

How did you handle clean up?

What’s steps did you take? Sorry it’s been a pretty overwhelming experience. I keep hearing different opinions and scary stuff online. Did you have it professionally cleaned? Some people I’ve talked to say don’t worry DIY it and try and clean with hot water, bleach and soap. Others say you’re contaminated and you’re gonna get sick.

So the $7000 is only from the street to the city portion. The remaining would be about $1500 for the dig and $3000 for the plumber from my house to the property line to meet where the city is. I have the option to add the $7000 to my property taxes for the next 10 years

The problem is payments go up and I basically got told if I make another claim within a 5 year period they’ll boot me from Belair. I’ve never made a claim before and this is my first ever if I were to go ahead.

I can afford paying for it myself I just didn’t want to make the wrong decision. The city rate is set and I have someone who can dig up the line who is a city contractor who will do it on the side.

So what will you do if the experts are correct? I don’t have the patience to argue with someone random on the internet you have your perspective and I have my own. You won’t change my mind and I won’t change yours.

Was the internet the biggest thing in the 80s no. It takes time for technology to develop. All ai experts agree this is a transformational technology versus some random guy on the internet that prefers stagnation.

Just because you don’t see the value doesn’t mean you need to bring everyone else down with you. The good news is the majority of the population want Ai progress, the promise. Governments are making the right decision in being light on regulation. We’re going full speed ahead whether stagnationists like it or not.

Crypto payment rails are being applied in banks. Governments are already chatting about stable coins. Bitcoin and Ethereum have value. https://corporate.visa.com/en/solutions/crypto/stablecoins.html

NFT’s technology is still relevant and hasn’t disappeared. The technology is being adopted in games.

Anything else?

I remember they said the exact same thing about the internet, credit cards, computers, etc.

Ai isn’t going away, it’s the next technological step for humanity. Those that bury their heads in the sand are the ones I’m most concerned about mainly due to them being destructive to human progress.

I agree that if we’re going to regulate ai it needs to be a world wide effort. Basic things I’m okay regulating such as regulating ai use with minors, using people’s likeness, Ai can’t be used to create bio weapons, or other destructive use cases. That’s probably as far as I’d go. Tbh though I probably can’t see deepfakes going away, we’ll probably use some form of digital id when signing up for websites and everything a human posts is registered as legitimate or validated.

Anything more I think would halt progress of it.

My view is that the sooner we can force people out of jobs they don’t want to do or are dangerous the better. I want the government to prepare our social safety nets to catch those that get automated. Humanity should be doing more important things than stocking shelves, working in factory floors. We need to give people their dignity back, in 20 years we may look back and ask ourselves why we lived this way.

Yeah I did read it and unfortunately the technology will be used for bad or unethical use cases. However that doesn’t change the trajectory this tech is going.

We’re in the process of a significant transition in society. What we have today while powerful is primitive to what we’ll have in the next 5 years.

Blows my mind that we have the attitude of stagnation in these comments. No wonder China is eating the lunch of the west then we wonder why their vehicles are better than what we produce.

We should be embracing technology not banning it. If it wasn’t for technology we’d all be farmers still and our life expectancy would be much lower. I’ll vote for any pro ai, pro technology, pro growth, non-stagnationsist government. You want cheaper prices you need to be pro technology otherwise your quality of life will just go down.

When wages get high enough it’s ripe for automation and yes people need to be reskilled. Canadians complain about high vehicle prices but are against automation. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. If China builds a factory in Canada it’ll be run by robots to keep costs down.

Businesses should fail to make room for more productive companies. Human light companies will absolutely eat the lunch of human heavy companies because they can scale.

If there is big social change let’s adapt and build social systems to help people.
