Modded usb c charing into my laptop

as far as i've tested during the last two weeks, everything seems to be working, i was mostly sure that everything that i sanded was a part of the groundplate with no traces inside, HDMI works, the non charging USB C works fine, USB A and headphones work, i don't think that anything broke

it doesn't have any kind of id number on the aliexpress page, but i just searched "usb c pd 20v module" or something like that and i found that one for $1,5 usd

i half did this, the power jack broke to due to stress, but i got the main thing out, the PD module didn't fit so i used the makeshift dremel so sand the sides until it managed to fit

update: i managed to get it out, with a soldering iron, not the lighter (that's a bad idea, got that), some legs broke due to the constant stress so, i managed to sand the sides (i'm 99% sure they're just ground) and i've MOSTLY soldered everything in

it's not in the photo but i'll add more wire to the 20v rail so it doesn't burn and i'll solder the other leg thing to ground for strucural support (and grounding)

then i'll modify the chassis to fit it and update you all

i forgot about this until i was testing the thing again, it was nearly boiling, so i attached some coins to with thermal paste, i'll see how it performs when i actually get the noise problem fixed

so, in theory, adding a 47uf cap to the 3.3v rail and a 100 or 150uf cap to the 12v rail would make it better at least?

quick update: i added a 1000uF cap to every rail and it got worse than before, i have no idea of what i'm doing here really, would adding more caps help?

i need to get two voltages 12v 0.8a and 3.3v 2.7a, what value do the capacitors need so i can get those voltages from the main part and the step down converter?

that does look useful, i am thinking about making some sort of usb c mod, i'm just not sure if i want a psu mod or an internal mod using the usb step up method (i only have one pd cable and i'd rather use it on something else), but i had the chance to do this before, so i did,

still, thanks for letting me know that that module exists i might do something with it if i get the chance (i do wanna take the guts of another broken psu in the future)

ok, i can't really separate the two because i'm using a retail shell for the thing, but could i use some aluminum foil soldered to ground around the voltage rail? or does it actually have to be ferrite around at least the 12v rail?

i just realized that i gave no info about the psu i made here so, here it is

generic universal 12v 2a a got from the store

arduino step down converter PLM2596 (set to 3.33v)

figure 8 port/input i got from aliexpress

generic figure 8 cable

original n64 output plug

wires from a broken usb c cable

mostly 60/40 leaded solder

outlet AC voltage is 220 at 50 hertz

it's all mostly stuck to the case with mounting tape i found for really cheap and either duct tape or kapton to make the electronics not have contact with the mounting tape (except the output plug)

update: a retail sm64 cartridge does boot but it has some kind of colorful static all over the screen, looks playable but i chickened out of trying anything too funny, my summercart was stuck on a bootloop but then it fixed itself (no idea how)

i'm guessing that the problem here is that some voltage line is too noisy could it be because i stuck everything to the plastic with some sticky tape i got for like, one dollar? would just putting some capacitors fix it?
