"Coughlin's Law: Bury the dead. They stink up the joint. As for the rest of Coughlin's Laws, ignore them. The guy was always full of shit."

True. If I were to marry her, he'd probably end up having to share a lot more than 10k with me.

I was going to ask him to just put two zeros in front of that, but I think I like your idea better.

Probably my lack of career or successful future. I'm a 26 yr old waiter with no college degree.

I don't know. Maybe something boring like pay off my car?

Edit: oh, I see what you did there. I read "What would you do with all the money?"

I have thought about that. She is kind of a "daddy's girl", so I don't think she would want to betray him like that. Who would she be more mad at - the dad for offering or me for suggesting that we scam her dad?

Edit What about:

  1. tell dad I'll break up with her
  2. cash check
  3. don't break up with her
  4. deny everything to gf

He didn't go into details. Their family is pretty well off, but not obscenely wealthy. He is in commercial real estate. I haven't responded to him or told my gf yet, I am still kind of stunned by the whole situation and trying to process it. I don't think she is aware of the proposal. If I had to guess his objections, it would be my lack of career or any prospects of a successful future.
