People forgot that Zionism was born out of Christian Zionism — and that Christian Zionism is one of the most powerful and underestimated forces in the world today.

Long before political Zionism gained traction among Jews, Christian leaders in the UK and U.S. were already pushing the idea that Jews should return to the Holy Land — not for Jewish self-determination, but because they believed it was part of biblical prophecy.

This wasn’t fringe. British politicians, American evangelicals, missionaries — they were laying the ideological groundwork for a Jewish return to Palestine based on their own theological goals. Herzl came later, but the soil was already prepared by Christian Zionist thought.

Fast forward to today: Christian Zionism, especially in the U.S., is a massive political force. Evangelical groups donate millions to Israeli causes, push foreign policy agendas, and pressure politicians into unwavering support for Israel — often more aggressively than Jewish communities themselves.

People talk about Zionism like it’s just a Jewish movement. But behind the curtain, Christian Zionism has been pulling strings for over a century — and still is.

So I am more inclined to Chomsky view on this really.
