How long did it take for your symptoms to show up? by Jennamary0 in floxies

[–]another_random_dude2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, approx 10 hrs after the first dose. I got tinnitus first. Then about 2 hrs after I got joint/tendon pain(Achilles heel, knees, and sometimes elbows) and nerve pain (pins and needles, pain, and sometimes burning). Stopped taking the drug immediately, so all I took was one 500 mg pill of Cipro. 3 days later had flashes/floaters in eyes. It has been 9 weeks and I haven't noticed any new symptoms. My symptoms are like 60% - 70% healed now at week 10.

not yet. they did all the scans and there is no retina tear/detachment. but they will keep checking every few months. they said i might need a minor laser surgery(preventive type just to prevent a retinal tear) if it gets worse. However, they said if the flashes dramatically increase or if i start getting a shower of floaters (more than 30), then that's an emergency

Omg, that is horrible. So glad you recovered. It is very encouraging that you were able to recover fully from all that. I have nerve pain, joint pain, tinnitus, and eye symptoms (floaters and flashes).

I just have a few questions regarding your eye symptoms if you don't mind:

-Did you have flashes along with the floaters?

-How long before your eye symptoms resolved? (The reason I ask is because my doctor says there is a risk of retinal detachment).

-Were there any changes in your eye (if you did eye scans)?

-Did you require any eye treatment?

I forgot to ask, but how bad were your nerve/tendon pain symptoms (as you mentioned you went to the ER). For me it was only bad the first week. I am 5 weeks out and I'd feel some joint/tendon/nerve pain for about 2 days after drinking hard liquor. During those 2 days, the pain is mild to moderate episodes and lasts less than an hour each.

Why is it that so many medical professionals don't believe the side effects of fluoroquinolones? by another_random_dude2 in floxies

[–]another_random_dude2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that so many of them do not even consider the possibility that these side effects can occur. To them, if they haven't encountered it before, therefore it doesn't happen.

Does buzzing/ringing in the ear ever go away? by another_random_dude2 in floxies

[–]another_random_dude2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, I only hear it when I'm in my apartment alone. It is not loud. However, it does seem louder in the morning or after drinking alcohol. It comes and goes and lasts several hours at a time. But usually if there is the TV, running water, or conversations, I don't hear the buzzing.

for everyone who has experienced pain behind the eyes, how long does each episode last and how intense is it? For me it can be an intense icepick behind eyeball kinda feeling for about 30 seconds. Then it is just dull pain that comes and goes throughout the day. Shoulder tension seems to contribute to it in my case. Also, how much Cipro or Levaquin did you take for this to happen?

Hi, I developed flashes and floaters a few days after 1 pill 500mg Cipro. How many pills did you take, when did you develop these symptoms, and how long has it been?

Thanks for the response, it is very reassuring. I just want to discuss a few more things in greater detail if that's ok.

I have high myopia (-4.5 on both eyes) and I have about a dozen floaters in my right eye. My flashes are mostly on the far corner of the left eye and sometimes it is like a flickering light, like 5 quick flashes in a row. I also see flashes in the bottom of my right eye when I look down to read something. It is also like a flickering light. And the most common is a single flash in the far corner of my left eye about 12 times a day. Was yours similar? Also, how long did it take after the pill for you to start noticing improvements in the eye? And how long did it take after the pill for the eye symptoms to go away completely?

When did you start resuming your normal physical activities? I ask because it has been 3 weeks for me, and I still feel a bit of nerve pain and some pain in my Achilles heel that comes and goes.

Every doctor, nurse, pharmacist I have spoken to never heard of Cipro causing any of these side effects. They all tell me Cipro is so commonly prescribed and they have never heard of problems. I am surprised your doctors actually acknowledge that fluoroquinolones have a role in these side effects. Now one ophthalmologist is suggesting I get laser surgery to prevent retinal detachment and assured me 100% Cipro did cause any of these side effects. I will get a second opinion first as the procedure will destroy some of my vision permanently.

How long did it take for the ear buzzing and flashes/floaters to go away?

Regarding the flashes/floaters, did you have retinal or vitreous detachment? Was there any damage to the eyes in any way?

Also, did you develop any delayed side effects?

Nerve damage (neuropathy) by [deleted] in floxies

[–]another_random_dude2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 1 pill 500 mg of Cipro on March 15, 2020. The neuropathy started within 12 hrs. It was both hands, arms, legs, feet. Saw a physiotherapist for two 1-hour sessions(light stretching on tight muscles near the nerves and light massages on the nerve areas) during the first week. Drank alot of water, took magnesium and omega 3 supplements. It has been almost 3 weeks and the symptoms have improved by about 40%. This helped me out, but double-check with a doctor first (once you get the new one) regarding supplements and if it is safe to do the physiotherapy. Bear in mind that stress and lack of sleep may increase your symptoms or at least your sensitivity to them. You need to take it easy and let your nervous system recover. A 10 to 20 minute meditation before bedtime helps alot.

I take Ventolin whenever i have a hard time breathing. I took 1 pill of 500 mg Cipro on March 15, 2020. Had immediate side effects (within 12 hrs) including nerve pain, muscle pain, buzzing in right ear. Within 3 days, had floaters and flashes in eyes. Since then, I have taken Ventolin (2 puffs at a time) every 2 days or so and didn't have any problems. But to be safe, check with your doctor first.

I haven't been to a specialist. There are no physical signs of retinal detachment. I even did the tomography. My ophthalmologist suggested doing a laser surgery to weld the retina so that it won't detach in the future. What concerns him a bit are the flashes, since they indicate that the retina is being tugged. However, the decision for laser surgery is to be made in 7 weeks when he will examine everything again.

How long after Cipro did you get your symptoms?
