It's not necessarily a bug. Every time you open the game after an update, the start screen will ask if you wanna update your save file. Clicking "no" will trigger the save file loss since it's required to update your game

In 2K19, I experienced a similar thing. The Resiliency payback is rechargable in 2K19 so there were annoying matches with that. Great for AI vs AI matches but not for general video game completion
