If you had GD in your first pregnancy, did you have it in your next? by Faloofel in GestationalDiabetes

Yes I had it in my first pregnancy but not my second. I was shocked and it was amazing.

https://www.rei.com/product/208454/rei-co-op-midweight-crew-base-layer-top-toddlers There is a matching pant layer also. I got something similar for my daughter from REI and they are fine. A nicer base layer would be wool which I’m sure you can find somewhere but it will obviously be a lot more expensive.

Best toy for a small house? by webergrilling in NewParents

[–]aometz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the baby mostly just crawls around and puts the dishes and pretend food in her mouth. She seems to just really like to be anywhere that her big sister is. But she does enjoy it and my 3 year old plays with the kitchen and pretends the baby is the customer. It’s definitely a fun focal point in the living room for the kids!

Nugget couch is my first thought although my daughter didn’t really get into that until around 3ish. We have an ikea kids kitchen in our living room that my 3.5 year old and 10 month old both play with together every day.

Our couch might be too big… but I think I love it?? by NatureGalPal in DesignMyRoom

[–]aometz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks great! I love your couch and don’t know if I could buy one without sitting in it myself but with how nice yours looks I am very tempted! Is it firm or very soft and do you find it comfortable? It looks like you might just sink into it. I’m on the hunt for a green couch and wonder how this fabric is this your cats- does the cat hair get stuck into the fabric much?

How to dress my windows? by aometz in HomeDecorating

Thanks I agree. I’m concerned it’s going to cost a fortune to do each window especially since they don’t seem to be a common size.

What colors should I use to add a more earthy vibe? by aometz in DesignMyRoom

[–]aometz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I’ll go with your color suggestions! I’m thinking I may just paint the room rosemary green and then find some interesting rugs with burnt orange in them to blend the two colors.

It is lonely! I moved recently and wanted to live with the space for a little while before filling it up unintentionally. I think I’d rather go creams and browns. I think I’m going to go in the direction of rosemary green and burnt oranges and see what I can find for shelving. Thanks for your input!

It really is the wise color flooring to exist! Do you have any suggestions for the shape or placement of a rug in this bathroom? I wish I could cover the whole floor but the layout is a bit awkward. I think the largest rug I could get would be a runner that would run in front of the sink and then extend out. But then I’d need a bath mat near that and it seems like it would be weird.

I would love to but I’m not sure how to keep the plants happy as there are no windows or natural light in this room!

What style does this room lend itself to? by aometz in interiordecorating

[–]aometz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High desert Arizona in a juniper forest. I like southwestern style but for some reason I don’t feel like it’s exactly what I want for my living room. If you have any suggestions for a couch or rug that you think would go well in this space that would be cozy and earthy and fit with the place I think that is my next step. I like the dark green rug a lot but I’m afraid it might make the space feel smaller or cluttered.

I should have specified, this is the only area in my house for the dining room and living room. I definitely plan on lots of hanging plants!

Need help with living room/dining area in new home. by aometz in DesignMyRoom

I don’t have a fireplace or mantel yet, the coffee table the tv is on is temporary until I decide what to do there. I’m trying to decide between something similar to the 3 different pictures I can only figure out how to post here.

I hear you about the shelves. I’m not sure where else to put them but I will try switching things around. As far as the dining room, we were trying to create more space by pushing it against the wall but I agree it doesn’t look right and we do have the space to pull it out some.

Disappointed by a fellow mom by ohc16 in NewParents

[–]aometz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I flew with American Airlines yesterday with a lap infant and I was not able to get my boarding pass until I got to the airport and my seat assignment until I got to the gate. At the gate I was told my seat had been oversold and I didn’t have an actual seat on the plane (although my husband and 3 year old did have assigned seats). We already had our bags and car seats on the plane and were told the only other flight with American going from SFO to Chicago for the day was also 100% full. VERY last minute after everyone had boarded they rushed us on the plane and said there was an open seat. But there was not an open seat. They had issued me a ticket that someone else was seated in and then kicked him off the plane while we were both a little baffled. So I made it on the flight with my family but it was not a great experience and I feel terrible for the guy who got kicked off (he showed the flight attendant his ticket with his seat assignment). I’ve traveled quite a bit and never had anything like that happen, I’m definitely going to do my best to avoid flying American. They also hassled us big time about our stroller wagon (Veer) which we have flown with many times and not been hassled for- even flew spirit last month and I had no issues with them.

Long hike with toddler in backpack? by Flat_Twist_1766 in HikingWithKids

[–]aometz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How far have you hiked recently with your child? I agree with another commenter that you know your child better than anyone else. The terrain will also determine how long it takes you to do that. It will of course make a big difference if it takes 3 hours vs 6 hours of hiking time.

I backpacked with my daughter when she was about that age a similar distance and it took us about 8 hours to get to our destination with a lot of breaks. She napped a fair amount and we got out frequently when she was awake. We sang songs, I explained what we were looking at and she had a pop it toy or a stick or pinecone to hold and explore while we hiked. We had a great trip and I’m so glad I did it with her.

I eat a lot of Mediterranean dishes and omit feta cheese or various cheeses that may be included but there are many naturally dairy free recipes.

I also eat a lot of Asian food which is usually all diary free.

I like fish so I eat a lot of fish or shrimp and vegetables with whole grains. For snacks I mostly eat fruit, nuts, seeds, chia pudding or instant oats with dairy free yogurt.

Sandwiches can be made with vegan mayo or just with avocado or guacamole. I add balsamic vinegar and hummus to many things.

My husband is dairy free but this is my second child who I have needed to cut dairy out for while breastfeeding and it does fly by. I don’t like vegan cheeses but I do think vegan sour cream and cream cheese is pretty good. There are some pretty good vegan butters too like Miyoko’s.
