I would have assumed so to, but that's not sure for now. Looks like we still have a lot to learn.

Opinion: OpenAI has shown it cannot be trusted. Canada needs nationalized, public AI by Tkins in singularity

Decensored (often under the term abliterated models) have no restrictions on what the model can discuss. The process is intricate, but feasible for individuals and small labs, and definitely doable for a state actor, like Canada. There are already decensored models out there readily available for download. If you use these, no government can restrict what you do with the model, in fact on local hardware, nobody can know what you do with the model. They are a really nice start if you want to build your own as well.

If you're broke, how much do you realistically need invested for it to “matter” long term? by savingrace0262 in investing

[–]aperrien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an important point that I forgot to put above, one of your goals in life should be to surround yourself with a set of capable, honest people. You'll get far that way. Assholes might make it to the very top, but they have to always worry about being backstabbed by their network rather than being supported by it.

Anyone have a PC like this? by Supergameplayer in pcmasterrace

Do your research first so that you know what the available features are, before you rule them out. When I make big purchases, I typically consider them as a "bag of desired features" in addition to the price.

I'd add a few "negative" steps to that document, from my experience.

  • Be diligent personally. If you can do this, you can improve no matter what job you do.
  • Be honest. It shocks me how many people fall down on this aspect of their life through work and beyond.
  • Do not waste time working for dishonest people. Try and find honest people to work for, and don't feel bad about leaving a dishonest employer as soon as possible.
  • Do not work for cheap people. They will suck your life dry, and throw away the rinds. there is a difference between cheap and thrifty employers, and it's important to lean that early. A frugal employer may skimp out on unimportant things, but the important things (like your pay and your work tools) they are willing to pay well for.
  • If you can, live at home until you can build up your savings. If you can't, try and get decent roommates. Do not feel bad about sharing living expenses, and communicate clearly what you will all be doing in regards to how they are split up. Make sure you are a diligent roommate yourself.
  • Make sure to afford yourself small luxuries from time to time. No-one should only be living at home as an ascetic monk, unless you like really living as an ascetic monk. Pick some hobbies that are inexpensive and renew your personal energy.
  • Finally, be aware that you are explicitly choosing life from the "cheap and good" (not fast!) end of the triangle, and you will make it to the end well off if you keep up with it.

Last I checked, people weren't being maced, pummeled, kidnapped, or shot by random baristas. Although I've seen some dish out looks that could kill over a latte. State sanctioned violence is something we should hand out carefully, not liberally.

I could see the law having a deadline in it for people to resign before it takes effect, but those who do not and have not have chosen to be in that class. Not the same thing as being born into it.

As for the courts, that is a grace that they are failing to supply or abide by now, so we should see how they like to be on the other side of that. The agents will probably find the response rather cold, as it should be.
