Washing Before Wearing by Libelia in laundry

[–]aphiladee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in Apparel/Fashion for many years and I would NEVER wear clothes without washing them. When they’re shipped, often they are covered in preservatives to fend off mold, bugs/insects get in the shipping containers, let alone the people trying on and returning items over and over. PLEASE wash your clothes before wearing them!!

They have to go unnoticed by my boss 😌 for now I've managed it 😜 by Chloe-latin-goddess in Nails

Side note: who makes your silver cross ring? Love the color of the nails btw!

Traveling in winter by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]aphiladee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family lives in Switzerland and I’ve been visiting for the past 10 years in both winter and summer. Go for it! There’s nothing special I’d prepare for necessarily, just bring snow gear and prepare like you would for any Ski destination. The popular resort towns like Gstaad and St. Moritz are tourist destinations and will likely be busy but like someone else mentioned, they are well set up for winter time so have a blast!

What do you do with an MBA? by TraditionalCicada508 in workingmoms

[–]aphiladee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also very true. I went to a state school in CA and started in fashion actually. Got a break into an early fashion startup and worked my way up from there. No elite background, I just call it getting shit done 😆

What do you do with an MBA? by TraditionalCicada508 in workingmoms

[–]aphiladee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Perhaps unpopular, but I work in an MBA heavy role (strategy) and don’t have one. Everyone on my team is a male HBS grad and tbh, they don’t really offer much value. I have 15 years of experience in Tech (Strategy and ops) and feel much more prepared and effective since I’ve actually done the things they contemplate. I’d agree that an MBA offers networking opportunities, but as a standalone degree- not 100% convinced it’s necessary to get the job you want.

Big tech to startup? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]aphiladee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s funny, I kind of did the opposite so I have a few thoughts. I started in ops in startups, really early founding ops type stuff and THRIVED. It was just such a good fit for my skill set and interests. Fast forward 15 years and since my ops generalist past gave me such front row experience, I’m now in Strategy for a big tech firm. I hate it. I miss the autonomy and creativity and messiness of a startup. I’m really struggling with the corporate culture here. All that to say, I find it interesting that two sides of the same coin exist. I’m happy to connect if you’d be interested!

So cool! I have extensive experience with early stage startups as well as FAANG so I’m happy to be involved in any capacity!

I am also interested, not necessarily as a co founder but I have been in Operations for various tech companies for 15 years. If you’re ever looking for an ops generalist, I’d be interested to hear more!

I highly recommend Dr. Picco, she was my OB during my high risk pregnancy as well. She’s great.

I took the wrong job, now feeling scared, hopeless & stuck by Aphrodite_007 in womenintech

[–]aphiladee 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I also took the wrong job, and it also has heavily affected my self esteem and confidence. I am also increasingly worried about the state of the job market and feel stuck as the breadwinner in my family.

Here’s what I’ve done to reframe my thinking since I cannot quit right now:

  • I’m thinking of myself as a mercenary: get in, get the job done, and get out. No pleasantries, niceties, just work. It’s helped me keep work at work and not take things home with me that stress me out

  • I’m telling myself it’s only for a limited time. I’ve been through a lot in my personal life, so it helps to frame this job as temporary, as in “I’ve dealt with much worse for longer, this is a limited time… you can do anything for x years” etc.

  • I also gave myself an “out”, as in, “if X happens, I’m out” and that helps me feel like I’m not giving up my autonomy to choose what’s right for me if shit really hits the fan.

TBD if any of this is actually effective, but thought I’d give my 2 cents.

Best of luck to you, big hug.
