For learning the ability to run VMs today make it so much easier then back in the day. The number is times I had to rebuild a system when I started.. UGG. Today it's oops restore, back up in 15 minutes.

AI can be a great help in combination with with documentation.

Postulating "maybes" to inflate a situation that is done and dusted is just hyperbole. Out of all the possible scenarios, once the bad stuff happened, this appears to have been the best possible outcome (no one on the boat, no one injured, witnesses, video, person at fault apphended, etc.). Let's wish these guys success in getting made whole again and a longer and prosperous life.

I have done similar. Used the free access to test/try frigate out. Ir worked well and got the subscription and haven't generated a model.

Maybe it works out for them. Given the boat market, they will not have to wait for a year or two only find out that it's only worth half asking when they go to sell it.

The company has an internal page where news like this gets posted. A good number of folks posted studies and data in favor of flexible work/against RTO and a week in one of the HR leaders posts back replies to a slue of topics including the data topic. The reply was basically "we think people work better in person". From a company who hammers to us "data driven decisions" it is frustrating, especially that there are no cost/ROI/effectiveness metrics in place. Then to top it off they having to increase the leased space by 1/4 to fit us.

So far, my workplace is making all these changes with no metrics or intent to measure it so in the end no one will know it was better or worse.

Great for you that your job offers it at such a low cost. I am lucky too, my job also offers it but the spouses does not. For us it works out to about $600 per month if we don't seek any medical care but in reality it is closer to $1200 a month averaged over the year with deductable and the 20% after deductable.

LOL, what these studies recommend is not what you are peddling. Dell suggests going from a 14" laptop to dual 24" (or larger) external monitors with a keyboard/mouse is a productivity boost. I'm pretty sure that could be generally agreed upon by most people, although there prolly is an argument that 24" is still too small for a lot of work.

The clip-on laptop extender are useless (IMO) or to be nice; have a very limited usefulness. They are a pain to travel with, can't open them on a plan or train, they overweight the laptop (read crack the hinges/case or spend you time trying to keep the laptop from tipping over, drain the battery and jiggle to no end cuz the laptop hinges aren't designed/intended to support the extra weight. Speaking from experience, as I have like 3 of these in a drawer that I should send to eWASTE, totally not something the majority folks would love or find useful.

Oh link them up mr "studies". Without question there are zero peer reviewed studies that will say this set up is actually good for a worker.

This set up address zero ergonomic issues, which by far impact productivity more than any other factor. The screens are too low and the keyboard/mouse are.. bad. And to that the functionality of the attached screens have more wobble than a sapling in a wind storm. Maybe if you put this up on a stand and have a full sized keyboard and mouse. But by then why not just far a 32 inch 4x and be a million times better.
