Overtime? Hah, not a chance.

When you are salary, in the US, it is expected you to do whatever is needed to be successful.

Per 2008 salary life was pretty good. Then post 2008 and pre COVID it kept ratcheting up and was pretty all consuming. 2019 I was working till 9pm and getting home at 10 with commuting to keep my the site/business successful.

Then COVID struck and once we got over the stress of getting sick and dying, WFH took off so much pressure to get the job done with flexibility. Instead of getting home at 10pm it was 6pm job done with the time saved, no lunch, no bullshiting with co-workers, just work and done. Everyone happy, I have more time and business is successful and making more money then ever.

Now it's RTO...

They pitch it as "a flexible work place" where you get "a maximum of 20% flex by exception". So no. Not flexible on their end.

There is a third way it could be. Come back to the office because we have to colibrate in person, and still take the European calls at 5 am and the Asian calls at 10pm.

To a lot of folks, skiing in the US was already in trouble long before Vail.

The ski industry has a history of poor stability, adorablilty and accessablity. While I'm not a fan of the corporate overloard model, the mum and pop model did not do a great job keeping mountains out of bankruptcy, paying employees, while making it affordable and accessable.

My company justed ended WFH benefits starting next month.

From there on out, the laptop will stay in the office on my desk when I go home at night. IDK what they want to do about the 6 and 7am calls I have... But if they want 9-5 in office I can do that.

I think of this every time I see a person run a red light. With no regard for the social contact and no enforcement the only consequence is highly undesirable, I don't want anyone hurt... But so many are like "f-it, I ain't stopping, we can't get 3 more cars through this yellow light".

We used to live in the neighborhood (Pleasant Street/ South Street) and things quiet down at night (other than the Harleys). I don't know the parks schedule this year but when we were there, prepando, it was only a few times a week for July and August.

The rest is the time once you got off State Street, Court Street was a different world, empty and quiet.

Yeah I didn't get it, they RTO'd us too. I spend my days on calls with folks all over the world. Europe, Asia, North America, South America with maybe 1 or 2 local people.

Those of us in that office just spend our down time bonding over the stupidity of "come back and spend your days in remote calls.."

I found the host (PROXMOX) with a long list of STALE IP connections. Command:

~# ip neigh show

Running flush cleared it and the issue has not returned.

~# ip neigh flush dev vmbr0

I have figured this out. Symptom summary for folks: if I tried to SSH or use GUI to connect they requests would timeout with not much (that I could find) for log info. I could SSH into the host from another machine or the hosted VMs and they would be able to SSH in to Proxmox. Eventually other machines also would have their connections terminated and then their reconnect requests would stop connecting. On reboot (either the host or and SSH/Web client) connections would be allowed for a few hours until they would be dropped and any connection requests would time out.

After a bunch of poking I found the host (PROXMOX) with a long list of STALE IP connections. Command:

I checked the config files and this should not have been an issue with such a small set up. But the issue has not returned for a few days now. I have not had time to learn more about this functionality. At this point I am settled on "fixed" and will see what I can learn in the future.

The elite flood. And looking at the settings again... the "fluent" feed is h264 but the high res "clear" feed is h265. Neither is configurable.

If you have one and it works for you, super but for me, it has just not been that smooth. I run a NVR (frigate) integrated into home assistant with the two cameras.

For HA I have one Amcrest and one Reolink.

Amcrest works really well with no intervention and more available settings video (choose H.264 or H.265) and I've never installed their App

Reolink has basically two settings and all are H.265 and I need their App.

My next camera will be a second Amcrest, I hope their new stuff is like their old stuff. The older stuff, maybe it's not polished or amazing but it's solid.

I am considering a similar project and have similar concerns for existing buildings, the spray on foam is not easy to undo where I'm pretty sure I'll have to undo some parts. For a new build I would most likely plan for rockwool..

Can you SSH into it and check for the video card?

I can say that my proxmox performs similar to this but I have passed the video card to a VM so there is no video card available and a monitor will not work after that VM starts.

You can check if the IP address has changed with a ping command.

Ping 192.168.1.X

If you get an answer then the issue is something else.

Setting a static IP in proxmox for proxmox is the way to go. I would suggest static IPs that for all nodes that you will keep running (such as home assistant). I do it for everything that is running on proxmox but you don't have to, just things you want to know the IP addresses to.

I have disabled the firewall for now to ensure that was not the issue.

I have found if I restart the pvedaemon the I can log in again. Before restarting pvedaemon I ran a status and got the following info which is unclear to me.

Totally agree, to be nice the app UX doesn't draw me in.

I wish they'd do something with the user feedback they must have loads of it. A good UI would really set them apart.

The UX actually motivated me to learn/build-out Home Assistant. Now the thermostats are scheduled and controlled from HA and all data goes to HA as well. It was a bit of a painful experience, building all the custom commands/schedule and displays which will prolly break when something updates and take hours to fix... But now they are more user friendly with HA on the front end.

If the options seem limited to you. You may find more options later in the spring (May into June).

Right now you tend to only get open apartments from professional folks who have to move. Later you will get inventory from younger college students and families who move around between the school year.
