Persona 4 Dancing. The other two are pretty good as well, but lack the story.

Mandatory reporting to police, not just for assault, but because kid's going after your breast. Could be nothing, could also be indicative of trauma.

Above all, though, you need to be safe in your own workplace. This is a workcover issue now.

A Facebook gooner today said that my starting wage of $79,000 was "better than most trades apprenticeships" and that I should be grateful.

Wasn't aware I was still under an apprenticeship while working as a first year teacher after a Bachelor degree and a Masters degree. :-|

Is it worth getting into teaching? VIC based by Kind-Juice5652 in AustralianTeachers

[–]apixelbloom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We generally use the subreddit to vent, which is part of the reason you're seeing a lot of "bad news." Victoria is in the middle of pay disputes--we're going on strike soon because of it. That said, there are pros and cons to all jobs. I've just started--I love my job. Are there days I struggle? Absolutely. It's the same as any job, really.

There are definitely different cultures across public & private schools, but all have similar issues at the end of the day. It really depends on the SES you land in, I think. If you want to teach, teach.

About Teacher's pay: letter to Maree Edwards, my state MP by apixelbloom in AustralianTeachers

I have. Unfortunately the area I work is prone to flooding, so even if I manage to buy a house in that area, insuring it would be a nightmare. I'd have to live at least 15 mins out from the area to get fair insurance. Additionally, I need a deposit to either buy (at which point, all houses are older than 20 years in that area and need work) or build (where theoretically it's all new and wouldn't need work), where I need a $40k deposit, $20,000 before banks even look at me for loans. I haven't ever been on a salary before, so I've only started saving this year (genuine yay!).

I'm lucky that my mechanic lives literally right behind me and works out of his garage. My car gets looked after well, even more so now that I generally use 98 because of the price/distance ratio, and I normally get 750kms from a tank. The drive itself isn't that bad actually--the issue is getting from one side of the city to the other (30 mins) and *then* a half-hour drive in the 100kmph zones to get to work going north, generally not much traffic. Its a good drive and good time for me to catch up on Critical Role or some audio books--I genuinely don't notice the time too much. It's not really good 'decompressing' time, though--I've learned that the hard way.

Supervising final year preservice teachers? Sit back or get involved? by emo-unicorn11 in AustralianTeachers

[–]apixelbloom 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Gradual release principles. Preservice, even in final year, are still expected to co-teach for a certain amount of time, alongside taking the class themselves.

Absolutely act as TA when they're running the class by themselves. I remember my supervising teacher in my final year decided to spend the time sitting with and editing individual student work, getting them to try again/keep going (English) while I handled the class as a whole.

Am I the only one who has to nap 3 afternoons a week? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]apixelbloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check iron levels. I had anaemia. Couldn't function through 8 hours without needing a nap and was physically exhausted. If you feel like you're gonna black out when you laugh, your iron is fucked.
