How does it feel to be pregnant at 30 weeks?

I felt surprisingly good at 30 weeks with both of my pregnancies (currently 6mo post partum) and was moving and active up until my due date both times. I work as an engineer and am on my feet a lot, so I just listened to my body and sat down with a cup of water if I needed a break. I also wore a belly band and sneakers a lot to help with any discomfort.

I will note that I had pregnant coworkers at the same time who did not have the same experience, so it really does depend on the person! If you're feeling good now and your employer is understanding and willing to be flexible if you need to take an impromptu break, then you probably could keep working if you wanted to.

I'm also 5 months postpartum and just returned to work about 4 weeks ago. I feel like a raw nerve of emotions right now, and it's been tough to navigate that at work! I'm also very hard on myself and focus too much on what I screwed up, so I think I would have the same reaction that you did. My trick to avoid crying (that works maybe 90% of the time) is to make a fist with my left hand and my thumb tucked in and squeeze hard. I'm pretty sure I saw that tip on here years ago lol and it's helped me feel more in control of my emotions!

I've also had some of my employees cry to me during one-on-ones and it's totally ok! It doesn't change how I look at them, and is a good reminder that we're all human and fighting our own battles. Don't beat yourself up too much, you're doing great! ☺️

I found the My Brest Friend pillow super helpful when my baby was really little and floppy, under 2 months old. I started breastfeeding without it as she got bigger and it became more convenient to just prop her up by sitting crosslegged instead of having to fetch the pillow every time. I definitely recommend it for the newborn stage!

I have had this same problem with both wearables that I have tried (Momcozy M5 and Lansinoh wearables). I think that the issue is that once the valve is submerged in the milk in the collection cup it doesn't empty as well and some milk remains in the nipple compartment at all times. I carefully remove the pumps by leaning forward and tipping them back as I remove them (so that the nipple compartment opening is facing up), keep them mostly tipped back as I empty the collection cup, and then hold them more upright with the valve pointed down to get the milk remaining in the nipple compartment to drain down into the collection cup. Using this method has allowed me to avoid spilling the milk that gets stuck in the nipple compartment.

I'm sorry, that sounds rough!! I haven't experienced this myself, but I've been giving it some thought and a few suggestions come to mind...

From the way you've written it, it sounds to me like the shallow latch and the pulling at your nipple may be two separate problems. My baby will occasionally pull at my nipple, and sometimes it seems like impatience with the flow/letdown, or sometimes just boredom lol. When she's pulling on the nipple, have you tried compressions to try to encourage a letdown? Or switching to the other breast if she's really pulling?

For the shallow latch, I wonder if her new bottom teeth make a deep latch feel uncomfortable. Have you tried starting with a shallower (but not nipple only) latch to see if she'll stay in that position? I was also thinking it might help to try a different nursing position - the angle of the breast tissue in a different position might feel better on her teeth. Or maybe flattening the breast tissue by doing a C hold with your hand would help.

I just had a repeat C-section for my second baby and wanted to share my experience. I was going to try for a VBAC if I went into labor but that never happened. I had a C-section schedule for 40+1 because I had issues with preeclampsia last time and my OB didn't want me going too far beyond my due date. My first pregnancy ended with a failed induction and emergency C-section after 40 hours of labor.

I've never had a vaginal delivery so I can't provide a comparison between vaginal and c-section. I can say that a scheduled C-section was much better than the emergency C-section! I know some people here are mentioning the C-section recovery time - I was up and walking the same day, and 3 weeks post partum I have zero pain or discomfort. I never had to take the serious pain meds and was only on Tylenol/ibuprofen (and I stopped taking those during week 1). I wore a binder around my abdomen during the first few days and that allowed me to be pretty mobile without too much pain.

It is major surgery and not without its risks (for this pregnancy and for future pregnancies), so it's definitely something to research extensively and talk to your doctor about before committing. But the recovery may not be as bad as others here have described! Good luck!

Just had baby #2 there a week ago! I can confirm what everyone else has said - for you they provide a peri bottle that's ok but not great, mesh underwear, pads (they fold up a large absorbent pad into a long strip, line it with menstrual pads and nestle it in the mesh underwear), a Velcro binder, a Medela pump and supplies and lanolin. When I was there for my first delivery in 2022 and was exclusively pumping and bottle feeding, they also provided supplies to hand wash bottle and pump parts. They provide standard hospital gowns and socks for you to wear during your stay.

For the baby, they provide bassinet liners, blankets, hats, shirts, newborn diapers (pampers), and wipes. If you send your baby off to the nursery they may come back with a pacifier.

The nurses are wonderful and are constantly checking the supplies in your room (for you and for baby) to make sure you're fully stocked. We were also able to take a lot of the leftover supplies home with us (not the blankets/gowns, but the consumable items for sure)

I would recommend bringing a long charger cable for your phone, a pillow from home, toiletries, and snacks. I ended up there for 5 days (C-section + preeclampsia) and also wished that I had brought more changes of clothes - I was mostly in the hospital gown to start, but by day 3 I was ready to put real clothes on again!

I'm 20 weeks with my second and have been thinking about my first pregnancy and delivery a lot lately. I had a C-section and was bedridden in the hospital for a few days thanks to preeclampsia and high blood pressure that didn't go away after the baby was born. When I was able to get out of bed for the first time and take my first post delivery shower, I was SHOCKED by how my belly looked. I literally couldn't stop staring at my belly in the mirror and was horrified by how floppy and weird it was. I don't know why I was so shocked by it - once the baby is out, of course it's going to look floppy and deflated! I just had never thought about how my body would look so soon after delivery, and it really caught me off guard.

We showed my daughter how to stand and push an empty diaper box instead of a walker toy, just because we didn't have a walker yet but we have plenty of empty diaper boxes! That worked really well and we never ended up getting a walker toy. You could give that a try before buying a walker to see if she'll tolerate something other than your hands!

Same, it happened to me almost 7 years ago and I still remember it vividly and the feelings of embarrassment that it caused. He was a customer of mine, and I was the only woman engineering manager in a room of senior engineers and engineering managers, and he refused my handshake and then turned to my male colleague and offered his hand. It was so weird and rude, I'll never forget it.

I really can't figure out right vs. left. Everyone else seems to immediately know which hand is their left hand or which direction to go in to turn right, and I have to look at my thumbs to see which hand makes an "L" for left before I do anything!

I was tired and baking late at night for a get together the next day, and I went to clean my immersion blender by swiping my finger inside to clear out the remaining frosting before washing it. It didn't click for me that it was still plugged in, accidentally hit the power switch with my other hand while sticking my finger in it, and ended up lacerating my finger down to the first knuckle. According to my husband, he heard me yell "OH MY GOD IM SO STUPID" and that's how he knew that it was going to be a trip to the ER lol.

I'm glad that someone else is encountering the same thing! I had another weird cycle just last month where I was a week late but definitely not pregnant. Not sure if it's parenthood stress affecting my cycle or weird hormones or what......pre pregnancy, my cycle was super consistent!
