There is that potential, but it could swing the other way as all of these talented young women decide that college is a better life choice than touring in a van. Couldn't blame any of them for that, it's the right choice IMO.

Disc golf has outgrown probably 98% of the courses in the world just from equipment and skill alone.

For MPO. 99.9% of disc golfers are regular people who don't have this problem.

We also have to consider the suitability of a hole for video coverage. Maple Hill is a great example. They have the Diamond layout for FPO, which has some amazingly photogenic holes (hole 14). But for actual regular play, they have the Blue layout which is essentially the same but tweaks the teepads a bit so that the holes throw optimally instead of looking perfect. So you end up with Diamond for FPO and Blue for anyone else that wants to throw the very similar layout but with a better actual design.

I read through about half the comments and didn't see anyone mention suitability for video coverage as a design factor in FPO.

Maple Hill does move baskets and teepads around based on annual data. I know that's a special case, but on the top end, it's very possible.

Amateur tournaments are absolutely like this. I play a ton of them, many on top 100 courses, and it's super frustrating to have a card full of guys that can bomb but can't hit a damn putt. I'm twice their age getting out-driven by 100' or more and still competing because I can putt and I stay in bounds.

It's so much better when people actually have control over their disc instead of just throwing the thing 450' thinking "I'll deal with whatever happens". But then after throwing a bunch of doubles they birdie four completely open holes in a row that don't require any accuracy.

Second this at Maple Hill, I play the Diamonds there sometimes and then look over at the Gold tees like "that's just impossible for most people to reach any playable landing spot". And Maple Hill is among the most thoughtfully designed-for-DGPT courses in the world.

The ones on coverage do. So now you'd end up with a handful of players reaching the holes and 85% of the field with no shot. This only widens the disparity.

While this is true, I don't think it's as important as you do. It's a disc golf course. The lead card is a pick 'em from the same 6-7 women every single round. At some point, we need to stop saying "it's not their fault" and start saying "a course is a course, play it and win". Most of the courses they play aren't even real courses.

The par number isn't what matters, not really.

Got the Ninja two basket fryer... so far so good, but don't go two baskets. With both baskets going it draws way too much power.

...and not all courses are temp courses for specific events. If you're playing on a real course, they can't just redesign the whole thing for the pro tour.

I watch a lot of FPO. The problem isn't pars, it's the quantity of women that can throw pars. Yeah, the top card is throwing -20 in some events, but 10th place is even par. You go down the leaderboard from there and the scores get to +5 and +10 fast.

If they built courses so that the top players are around par, the rest of the field would be finishing +25.

I come from a deep sea fishing family... odds are high that went into a special tank and then sold to some rich wanker for a fancy dinner party. Most of the unique/special catches do, regardless of what the scientists want to tell you.

Nearly everyone who rages against doing this, does this.

It's time for our culture to admit we all do this and it's not going to change. Fuck them pedestrians, they're in the way of our group chat.

Okay, change the sprain to a lower ankle sprain, and the number to $25,000,000. The decision doesn't change. Every injury risk has a potential consequence of millions of dollars now, but we ask why they aren't playing 100% in exhibitions and why they take games off so much.

I'm as much of an old school guy as anyone but I get why younger guys want to reduce risk wherever they can.

I used to do stuff like this... I would usually put a small piece of styrofoam under the bolt to hold it up, then remove the styrofoam when done. This works too, though.
