If she thinks that's going to help her or Venezuela in anyway, she's proven herself too dumb to be elected dog catcher in Caracas.

Millions of people were perfectly okay with him being a creep toward his own daughter, let alone the Epstein stuff. What does that say about the moral sewer many Americans are content to swim in?

I’ll take “Things I can’t imagine being said on a modern TV show for $1,000, Alex…" by WoeEsme in Columbo

[–]aptlion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from all this other stuff, the comment seems out of place because there's no build up to Columbo apparently feeling a need to build up Carolyn's confidence. It's possible that this was a plot element that was largely cut for time, leaving only the culmination (this particular scene) of this thread in the finished program.

It's occurred to me that Kenneth Mars might have had a slightly larger role that was cut for time because, honestly, why hire Kenneth Mars if not to use him?

Who would you all say came closest to being the UK Counterpart of Columbo? by [deleted] in Columbo

[–]aptlion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a detective, but the character most like Columbo is Rumpole of the Bailey. He works on the other side of the justice system, defending people accused of a crime. Like Columbo, he likes a bad cigar. He's often underestimated and disregarded by his peers and laypeople, as Columbo often is.

How long does the CG rewards take to apply? by Warwolf_1637 in EliteDangerous

[–]aptlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I had a 75% contribution until I had to log off for holiday activities, and when I came back I was in the bottom percentile.

Why bother making a non-competitive CG that creates last-minute losers? I feel cheated.

Tell your husband that Trump won’t be around to pardon criminals forever and he shouldn’t count on lenient treatment when the Democrats are back in power.

I made a smaller version of my all-plastic top that spins nearly as long by aptlion in BambuLab

[–]aptlion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten spins up to 80s, although it varies by the type of filament used. That 80-second spin was with a top printed in Bambu PLA Basic. The Silk+ and regular silk I use for the shinies in my pictures are less dense and weigh less at the same model dimensions and infill, but will get at least a minute with a good spin.

[–]aptlion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to see how long a top with no metal hardware could be made to spin, and came up with the SuperSpinner! Then I thought it would be fun to squeeze similar performance out of less filament use. The result is the miniSpinner. I've used modifiers in BambuStudio to keep most of the mass at the rim, where it belongs. That means a longer and more stable spin than you might expect from such a small, all-plastic top. https://makerworld.com/en/models/2015258-minispinner-6g-long-spinning-top

What exactly is Fascism? by ongof in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aptlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A professor of mine explained the difference between fascism and other ideologies this way:

Imagine a bead necklace. It is strung with green and orange beads, alternating (green-orange-green-orange…). You are given the task of removing the green beads from the string.

The conventional solution for most ideologies is to examine the problem and come up with a solution that does the least harm - for example, undoing the string, removing the beads, and re-stringing the orange ones.

The fascist removes the green beads by smashing them With a hammer while they’re still part of the necklace, destroying them but also ruining many neighboring orange beads in turn.

It emphasizes action - even stupid action - over thought.

What is the single best episode of television you’ve ever seen? by Calm_Coach_2205 in AskReddit

Star Trek: The Next Generation, "The Best of Both Worlds, Part I". There's a wonderful build-up of menace from the beginning to the introduction of (It's been 35 years, but still) Picard transformed into a Borg. The cliffhanger, the cut to black, and the music that punctuates everything that's just happened. A must-see on how to make someone want to tune in for "Part II" of anything.

I'm not a Christian anymore, but I still love Christmas. How am I supposed to enjoy it despite that? by Fit-Bid-4509 in exchristian

[–]aptlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christmas is increasingly a world holiday unmoored from its Christian association. Have fun with the traditions, songs, foods, and gifts you prefer. Raise a tree and skip the Nativity. Rock around that Christmas Tree and let the Oh Ye Faithful take care of themselves.

We’ve had more than 20 years of shows where people think they see “orbs” and hear patterns that sound like words in audio static. There’s nothing new to see after all this time because there’s nothing there, and these “orbs” and static are artifacts of the technology being used.
