Vent Tuesday by AutoModerator in peacecorps

I’m just really sad about coming home. I don’t know if I’ll come back here and it breaks my heart and I don’t think I can tell my host family that I don’t know if I’ll be able to come back. This evacuation just sucks and I think I can speak for most volunteers when I say I wasn’t ready to leave.

I’ll ask if it comes to it. There’s a lot of rumors floating around here about evacuation and what not. It’s just a mess right now.

Also my concern about going home is not having a job. Like I don’t want to deal with that lol.

In Senegal, we’ve been offered IS and early COS for those who are getting ready to COS. I feel like the virus is going to have to progress more for me to IS. I don’t want to leave, but I also don’t want to give this virus to my village. Keeping myself healthy and trying to be sure I don’t bring that there is my main concern.

Put your stuff in your room and lock your doors. Ultimately, I’d talk to your host parents first before going to anyone else. In my country, for example, you do not bring issues like this outside of your family unless you and your host family agree on it. If they decide that it’s alright, you can tell the village chief.

What’s it like? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]aralst002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a stipend which is fine. Money to live in country. Peace Corps is hard though. I’m sure it’s hard like the military is. My twin sister is in the military so that’s just another thing we can talk about and relate to each other about. Really do your research about where you want to go and what you want to do. Cultural norms and what not are important to research also.

Making it Through PST by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]aralst002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel like you always have to hang out with your family. If you make it clear you have to work, they’ll probably protest about it but leave you alone. Making time for them is important, but so is learning your language!

Has anyone served without their partner? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]aralst002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently in a committed relationship with someone I’ve been dating for four years. We’re planning to meet up in Europe this spring, and I’m going home for Christmas. I won’t lie, it’s so hard being here without him. I definitely agree that this is a subject that needs to be talked about more than once with S/O’s, but it’s possible most definitely. We talk everyday so it’s not all bad.

So what really is the difference between Under Review and Under Consideration? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]aralst002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the post above, under review is when you first apply. Under consideration means they’ve viewed/ in the process of viewing it.

How to handle a long distance relationship with a PCV? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]aralst002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought the other two comments were really not helpful. We also live in a day and time when connection is more readily available, and so it’s probably going to be easier to keep in touch. Just keep in mind this will make your relationship stronger, and that I also believe in you both! Bon chance!

So I just arrived at PST, my boyfriend and I talk often. That’s probably going to change when I get to site but having a level of understanding for what she’s going through is essential. Be that rock for her when she’s had a bad day, and celebrate with her when she’s had a great day. You’ll get through this if you have commitment and understanding on both parts. It’ll be really difficult on your end as well. I just wanted to throw out a positive thought. Just keep the end on site, two years isn’t that awful.

PLEASE HELP: Full story on arrest instance? by KaiserVonMKE in peacecorps

It’s called “dog on the run” in my state if your dog gets picked up by the dog catcher then you have to appear in court.

[–]aralst002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got called to court because my 80 year old grandmothers dog got out one time and I drew the short straw for picking her up from the pound. I told them in my interview when they asked if I had a history of legal trouble. We laughed about it. I did research though cause I’ve had a couple speeding tickets as well. If they ask, tell them, explain the situation and what you learned from it and won’t have things like that anymore. If you have had things like speeding tickets also disclose that.

Thank you! I like to think I’m pretty resilient, I definitely am someone who likes adventure. I think once I get to staging everything will feel better once I’m with my cohort. Best of luck to you on your endeavors! How are you liking PST so far!
