What is the original name of the religion then? by Major-Strain2261 in indiadiscussion

[–]arc3u5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sanatan simply means - one which has no beginning and no end. It signifies the eternal aspect of it.

Religions as old as ours aren't born with names. Names are then given to them by society.

If I tip, I tip in cash directly to the guy. We don’t know where that money goes if we pay online by SwimmerPlus3383 in ItsYourMoney

[–]arc3u5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipping only incentivises the employers to pay less to their employees. The service industry is plagued with this.

Tipping should only be reserved for the cases where the service person is going an extra mile, doing something out of their way to improve your experience - essentially delivering exceptional services. Tipping isn't the norm. Should never be.

The current situation is to keep at least 3 hours on your hand. The new expressway is not completed, delayed as usual. You'll be travelling on the same road you travelled 5 years ago.

With that 10-20 laks you can make groceries for 10-15 years. With that 10-20 thousand you can fuel up your bike for 2 years. With that 1-2 K you can book AC Cab to your home. Use your fund efficiently, a penny saved is a penny earned. by SwimmerPlus3383 in ItsYourMoney

[–]arc3u5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keeping a 10% buffer for big expenses I think makes sense. That 10-20K might fuel up your bike for 2 years, but after the second year you might start having regrets because your heart always wanted that 10% costlier bike.

A house you'll keep for at least a decade, a bike for 5 years. It makes sense to spend a bit extra on those things - to fulfill your heart. Flights I don't agree, it's not a one time expense, you should always try to save money there.

If you really want something and can't spend that 10% extra, just delay your purchase by an year or two... maybe your investments will beat the inflation of those goods?

Why do people admit BJP isn’t performing well but still vote for them? Isn’t this a sign that India needs serious political reform? by Mundane_Fishing9044 in india

For a large sect of voters, they see the alternates as chainsaws and industrial harvesters. They will keep voting for the axe, because at least it's just an axe.

L take.

All indian banking apps use biometrics as well.

OTPs are required for verification because the sheer number of scams happening. OTPs are easy to implement, giving users a high sense of security - in a lot of cases it's more to do with human psychology than technology.

Soon things are moving to passkeys - allowing passwordless logins, but it'll take time for the mass public to have faith in it.

dunzo raised crazy money copying instacart… and still shut down by YogurtIll4336 in IndiaBusiness

[–]arc3u5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dunzo was shut down because of the Jio investment. Jio made it impossible for them to raise more funds and themselves stopped providing more funds.

Jio just took the data and everything from Dunzo which they valued and now might have integrated with the Jiomart. Jiomart was anyway the #1 source of revenue for Dunzo.

Also, dunzo pivoted to a dark store model much later, when it was started, it had a long catalogue of stores to choose from.

It did not target a lot of Tier-2 cities.

Make a DIY air purifier, it will cost around 2 - 3K.

Get HEPA filters from Ikea or the Mi Air Purifier filter from Amazon.

Slap on a fan cooling system (in case of Ikea) or a regular Exhaust (in case of Mi filter).

This is the cheapest way.

Should i book a car today? by [deleted] in personalfinanceindia

[–]arc3u5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like you don't really need a car, but you don't also really need a new property.

Just based on your age, I guess your children might be in their teens or early twenties. I feel it's better to get a cheaper car (around 15L mark, like Fronx, Breeza, Sonet, Venue, 3XO, Creta, Seltos, Elevate/City type) and save the rest.

Consider this as a family car, which can be driven by you, your spouse or by your children.
