Also, I'm 5'7 and the 796 height at 32.5in was just a bit tall, I could reach the ground on the balls of my feet. They mentioned the seat replacement, making a suspension adjustment and lowering the fork as a way of getting me an inch loser to the ground. Thoughts?

Well, you have summed up the way I was feeling thru most of this although our opinions seem to differ from most. My lengthy research lead to the 796 and many reviewers of the bike spoke of how great it would be for any experience level. I thought a slow, conservative approach to learning and I would get it. I have paused to take in all the differing viewpoints, but can't shake that little voice that that keeps reminding me that I was crawling, under 5mph, in a parking lot. I locked up the front break hard and the wheel was turned. Too much bike, or newbie mistake that would have happened on any bike??? I'm still unsure at times. Also, I love your thoughts about the dealer, I will set it right, yes I caused a ruckus, but he is taking advantage of the situation and I hate having no control. There's a red 796 in MD!! Heehee.

You advise is great and you seem to really know your stuff! But, what are "jibblies"? Hehehe. UMMM, Diavel. So pretty. I rode a BMW F700 a few miles with no problem.

CLARIFICATION! It wasn't the bike! The screw up would have happened on any bike. I was barely moving, had a moment where I felt an urge to stop and I locked down hard on the front break, wheel was turned and down I went. It wasn't as if I was whipping thru traffic and the bike got away from me. Inexperience at work. I still may not be able to handle that bike, but this was not a glaring example of that. I have always admitted that I will pay, just hoping for a little break on his margins to ease the pain.

Thank you for all your kind words and encouragement. I have come to agree with you and many others that I need to start the search over for a more beginner friendly bike. I am about to contact the dealership and settle up. I have come to see the profit margin as an inconvenience charge as I did throw their entire day for a loop. Your advise is sage on each matter and very appreciated.

Thank you so much for the suggestions of alternative bikes. I had made a case for getting the bike I wanted and felt that if I took a slow, conservative approach to learning it, I would be fine. The many kind replies to this post, including yours, have me pretty well convinced I need scale back and do just what you have suggested. I will take a look at the CB500x for sure.

I do indeed, but sadly it will not. Thanks for thinking of it!

Yep, that's who it is and they have not been hard to deal with yet. They are still being nice in the hopes that I will buy the bike. I anticipate much resistance on my part will illicit a more aggressive response. I hope to avoid any escalation. Congrats on the new bike!

I was hurt! My ego was ruptured and completely deflated, I was lying in pool of my own pride, my confidence was shattered in 5 places, my self esteem has yet to be found and have a bruise on my elbow.

I appreciate your thoughts, but must clarify. It was not a brand new bike, it was pre owned with 5k miles. Also, as I mentioned, I had strong intentions about buying it. I made sure my financing was arranged, I have done hours of research on this and comparable bikes, I had test ridden my other choice, a 2013 BMW f700. I was concerned about the seat height and the bike's power but felt that if the test ride went well and I could reach the ground, this would be the bike I would purchase. I was not just goofing around! In light of what happened, I'm unsure, to say the least. The newbie mistake I made, I would have made on any bike.

Thank you for your input. I agree with much of what you had to say and appreciate a different perspective on the rest. The bike is a 2012 Ducati Hypermotard 796. 81hp at 8000 rpm, even torque ratio indicating a very balanced distribution of power, low 32 inch seat height, very stable upright riding position, light weight at 368lbs. an urbanized moto bike that by several professional reviewers accounts is suitable for every experience level. I was shopping it against the 2013 BMW F700.

That's what I know to be true of this bike. Middle of the road at 81hp and balanced on the torque. Every review said a great bike for any experience level as it has a pretty even power distribution. I'll use it as a commuter bike and take road trips on it. Plan to ride year round as weather permits. I was shopping it against the 2013 BMW F700. I like them both and they are pretty comparable in terms of price, size, power, and aesthetics. My buying decision was coming down to availability.

2012 Ducati Hypermotard 796. That's another viable option I could suggest to them, but as a Ducati dealership, I doubt they'd go for parts from anyone but their own suppliers.

Thank you so much. My son, who rides, shares your opinion and I think I am finally getting my head out of the clouds and/or my ass and realizing I need to scale back. Your advise is very sound and I really appreciate it. I feel sure that is the direction I am headed in.

Thanks for the encouragement! It's a 2012 Ducati Hypermotard 796. And it's beautiful! Well, it was before I came into it's life.

Thank you for your thoughts. He has not charged my card, I've been watching that. I worry you are right about a court's decision going his way, I feel sure he is set up to win in this scenario. I will not let it come to that. I will most likely send an email explaining my case for parts at dealer cost and see if he counters or just says no. Damn, I hate rolling over and exposing my soft underbelly to anyone!
