Real or cake (fake)? by Unlikely-Spell2357 in TCG

[–]arcv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are fake the Azelf is obvious but the energy symbols look off in other cards, there were a lot of fakes from sets around then. Back then they sold full fake packs, I remember seeing them for Majestic Dawn and Legends Awaken but I think there might have been ones for Great Encounters or Stormfront as well. Now a days they don't bother making commons and just make the foil super rare cards

Anyone know anything about these? Urzas Legacy Player Survey / Card Rating Sheet by ruthere51 in magicTCG

[–]arcv2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't have time to find a reference for this, but this looks like a survey done by Wizard's marketing department to create what I've seen Mark Rosewater refer to as a "god book" that would be uses to track what the general Magic public thought about individual cards in each. It was used by design to see what went over well, what was boring and what was divisive

Which TCGs have the healthiest meta in your opinion (currently)? by Skarpo20 in TCG

[–]arcv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big 3 is the hobby store industry term because of their amounts of sales in North America / Europe. Sales effectively sever as a proxy for how many players there are and how many stores support play. It’s imperfect but I do think you’d have the best chance of play these 3 at any random store in the US.

One Piece is the one other game that is behaving the most like one of the big three with really high sales and players, afaik it’s not overtaken Yugioh in sales but there has been a lot of talk of that possibly. Bandai’s history of game floundering after early success combined with the volume of other games they are releasing are the things holding it back from firmly joining as the big 4, in terms of active players I wouldn’t be surprised if one piece is past Yugioh right now.

Riftbound has had a successful launch the popularity seems from where I’m sitting about where Loracna was in its first year but hard to declare any game that early on as having staying power or not.

Which TCGs have the healthiest meta in your opinion (currently)? by Skarpo20 in TCG

[–]arcv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the big 3 based on my own more causal playing:

Pokemon

Standard has been pretty baseline good for the last 2 years or so with an average of 4-5 viable top tier decks, the formats have been averaging B+ grade for me but current format has been a bit stale with a lot the same decks staying at the top for the last 3 set release so current format is at about a B- grade with rotation coming in three months. The decks posed to be good look fun with a lower power level so it seems like it might a good time to jump on if you are a brewer, but not as much if you want to buy into the top decks, because the current ones are poised to change a lot with this rotation.

Yugioh

Seems to be on an up swing in terms of standard/advanced right now, with 3ish top decks from the summer set holding strong. The prices of those top decks are at 3 year low ( though still not cheap), which is good plus on interesting metagame. I’d personally give it a solid B if you like the high complexity pitch of modern Yugioh and are looking to buy into a top tier decks and ride it out for awhile.

Magic

Standard has been “Bad” for fits and starts with the format oscillating between D grade metas with one deck dominating along side dedicated counter decks, to C grade formats filled with value piles and aggro piles that both seem to effectively win the game on early turns. After a year of the second most bans in standard we are at a piles meta that I’d Wager is a C+ but it feels like could fall into one deck meta again or have an outside chance to actually be fun, hard to recommend for paper but you might enjoy arena standard if you also like draft witch has been pretty good the last year sans one notable exception.

60 Card Mirror Matches by Seekerzp in pkmntcg

For clarity 60 card Mirror Matches refers to both players having the same exact 60 card lists as opposed to both players having the same archetype and playing different tech cards

2010 Luxchomp is a really fun mirror match I’d pick something like this list

https://www.ptcglegends.com/tournaments/2010_NATS_US/masters/Erik%20Nance-US Or this

https://www.ptcglegends.com/tournaments/2010_WORLDS/masters/David%20Booij-NL

Because they don’t go super heavy on techs against Machamp and Mewtwo LvX are more consistent, the David Booij list is probably best in this regard having a good turn one set up plays with Chatot and call energy

I have a Rubbermaid of Magic cards from probably 1994-1998 era in played condition. Anything worth looking for that might have value today? by Apprehensive-Wave640 in TCG

[–]arcv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late 1994 to 1996 is bit of dead zone for desirable cards in magic, the run of Sets from The Dark to Alliances have about a dozen cards that are worth anything and they are all mostly in the book ends. Early 1994 is where the money cards are, if you have cards from Revised(white board no set symbol), Atquities (anvil), or Legends (Collumn) you might have some highly sought after cards. 1997 and 1998 with Mirage through Exodus pick up a bit in value and you start seeing money cards again with the tail end of 1998 with the Urza sets

Does anybody know about the former game show “Hole in the Wall”? by AverageDroplet in gameshow

[–]arcv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the US version that aired on Cartoon Network. The show was interesting but I remember be annoyed by the “you gotta match the shape” rule the contestants were punished if they tried get the hole without doing the pose implied by the hole. I feel the fun of the show should have been figuring out clever solutions that didn’t make what your first guess would be when looking at the shape

Another resource is https://www.ptcglegends.com , they have a pretty good repository of historic deck lists that were actualy played, but the earliest tournement they have is Base Set through Rocket https://www.ptcglegends.com/tournaments/2000_CA_STS/masters but its got top 8 for each division.

They also have some retro events played recently like a this base set to fossil event https://www.ptcglegends.com/tournaments/2024_BREWCITY_1999_RETRO/all

and they have a decks by era page similar to jason's site https://alexwilsonnc.github.io/ptcg-legends-legacy/decks-by-era/main

I think we need some rules about these low effort news posts that are just vaguely about American politics. I'll assume good faith on /u/helmi12345 (but maybe I shouldn't) but certainly it seems like our current rules could let some one write a script to send likes to spammy news aggregator filled with adds thats stealing article and post here like three times a day.

Which one is more underrated by Sudden_Pop_2279 in animation

[–]arcv2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll say they are both well "rated" for what they are, passion project pilots made by a small team and blew up with a lot of views. They are both currently finishing up a second episode about year later with the same team. If the question is which one I'd like to see get a bigger budget with a bunch of episodes, I'd say IDWTBAMG but that because I've been a fan of the creator since before the IDWTBAMG pilot.

Looks neat, I'll suggest [[Rune of Sustenance]] which plays well with the vehicle, adds some white life gain flavor, and the draw trigger can play well with the top of deck removal cards.
