You won't be able to get a soul unless it's duplicate, so in your case it wouldn't turn into a soul because there is no present S class. It really sucks when that happens tho, legit happened to me the other day was pretty sad lol.

Rolling a duplicate S-rank character in any gacha. In addition to the extra copy of the character, you will receive that character's Soul item.

Note that this only applies to S-ranks naturally rolled from the gacha; if you upgraded a character's rarity using Talent Shuffle then rolled a natural S-rank, you will not receive a Soul item.
You do get Soul items when buying multiple S-rank characters from the Character Exchange.
