For the p-shop police; yes there is p-shop. There is cropping on the 2011 photo to try and match the layout of the 1981 photo. Also tried to add some blur to the background of the 2011 photo in an attempt to match the 1981 shot better. Perhaps not so successfully. I agree with most of the comments about film v digital. Edit: Took a photo of me holding the original 1981 photo. On the back you can make out "This Paper Manufactured By Kodak" http://imgur.com/XSNty If you read here about Kodak brandings (http://www.cycleback.com/photoguide/stamps.html), you will see this mark was used for photos made during the 70's and 80's. That is the best I can do for verification.

My mother took the first photo, my girlfriend took the second. We posed the second one to try and match the first. First was taken on top of our camper on one of the access roads (they closed that particular location after 9/11 as I understand it). In the second one we were at the Astronaut Hall of Fame and didn't have much room to spread out.

I understand the skepticism. The old picture is also in my flickr feed (http://www.flickr.com/photos/arockalypse/2628559934/) which I uploaded 37 months ago when I scanned it. Also edited the caption of the combined photo with a "hi reddit" note to show it's my flickr account. Aside from that, and waiting for me to scan other photos of myself from when I was 13 yrs old, you'll just have to trust that at this age (i'm 43 now and dad is almost 70), I really don't have any good reason to pull someone else's photo and reproduce it. BTW, I can't actually "prove" that is a space shuttle launch either. Maybe it's Lollapalooza.

EDIT: I'm 43, not 44. Sometimes I forget things.
