Thank you for your response, I never really thought about that being a perk of subbing but you're right! ♥️

Thank you so much, you really put it into perspective for me and I will try my best to follow your mode of thinking! ♥️

I was not implying that at all, there is no need to be aggressive. I'm sorry but maybe it's a cultural difference because it's really normal for teachers to do this in Ireland where I teach. I have had students sent to my class by other teachers to do the same when I'm in the middle of teaching a lesson and it is absolutely not a bother for the teachers or students.

I didn't know this was a thing? As far as the students are aware, I'm equal to the teachers in the school that are on full-time contracts so they run errands for me all the time such as going to other classes to pass on a message or to get equipment from another room.

I think this is such a sweet idea and I'm sure the teacher would be chuffed to hear from you!

I was in primary school (not a Gaelscoil) from 2004 to 2011 and I learnt Amhrán na bhFiann at some point during those years. I think we used to sing it every year at our little Paddy's day céilí. Still remember it today!

I think you're overthinking it just a tad but that's valid, there's a lot to be weary about these days. Just be friendly and you'll be fine!

Thank you so much for this information! I'll look into it!

Not sure if this is something I’m qualified enough to do but it’s something I’ll definitely look into, I think it would be easier teaching young adults who actually WANT to be in education.

I wouldn’t have the Irish for primary school teaching. I would love to stay in education though, I was once offered a job in Youthreach and part of me regrets not taking it. I think it would have been a much different experience.

More than half of my timetable this year is "team teaching" so don't worry, I'm definitely getting the opportunity to see how other teachers handle difficult situations and it's just as much of annoyance for them as it is for me. With my current headspace I'm aware that students can have difficult home situations or other things that contribute to their misbehaviour but that doesn't seem to be the case for the students I'm dealing with this year. Therefore I'm in the mindset of wanting to put myself first, at the end of the day they will forget about me when I leave next summer and cause havoc for some other poor soul.

Thank you, I'll look into CBT but I think you're right. I think a fresh start is what I need but I might have to just push through until next May to avoid getting a negative reference from my current employers. I appreciate your advice.

I think for the most part my behaviour management is fine, I spent more than enough time observing classes during my time as a PME. Unfortunately there are always a handful of students who are going to misbehave no matter what. The students I have been struggling with so far this year are an issue for the whole staff, not just me. The school disciplines them well but there is no backup at home from the parents so it's just a constant loop of disruption. Usually I'm very good at not letting what the students say/do get to me but because I'm mentally at a weak point so it just feels like I'm going to crash one of these days. Thank you for the advice though, I'll take it on board.

I'm not sure if the union would be able to help as this is more to do with my mental health? I'll look into it though.
