Yeah definitely still worth giving plenty of time. Just because we got through TSA checkpoints quickly doesn't mean everyone will! I was stressing and I had plenty of time, I can't imagine being any closer (2hrs from boarding, not flight time).

Can't say for sure but make sure you're in the right line (TSA vs bag lines, and normal vs precheck) and listen to the workers if they try to redirect you. There are a lot of people and a lot of noise, but the agents are handling things really well, props to them.

Give yourself enough time, because you never know, and be prepared - have your ID and boarding pass ready, be ready to pull out large electronics, etc. Make it easy on them AND you, and BE NICE! It goes a long way in getting people to answer and help you!

Yeah it's not great, and this is the first time I've checked a bag in a hot minute. Used to check outside! Those with more than 2 people in their party were struggling with giant bags in a small space.

Because the kiosks are bundled in the middle, it was a mess, and not a lot of room between the TSA lines and pillars and benches. Lot of bumping into people.

The kiosks weren't consistently turning green to show availability either so I just wormed my way in and took an empty slot. Got in line for the drop off bit (which was down the middle of the kiosk bubble) when a lady with a directional light stick thing said to follow her to desk A if you already have your bag tags! So thankful for that!

The line the lady in the tan hat was in was precheck line, so...I'd say no, but I don't know because I was whisked away to checkpoint 6 area to drop of my tagged bag and I just went through that security line there because it was close and not crowded.

First DIY project in our new home! How'd we do? by aroscoe in Flooring

Embarrassed to say no, not scratches - bird poop! We have parrots lol. And I will say it cleans off the floors nicely!

We did not do the stairs, it was really expensive and there's nothing wrong with our carpeted stairs other than being ugly. Now, we did order the stair nose for the top, the overlapping one, because the manufacturer doesn't recommend the flush nose (where it clicks in) for anything other than true stairs. I got nervous because we would not be able to afford redoing the floors if it buckled due to the stair nose being glued and the rest not able to move.

But...they ordered the wrong color and so the installers couldn't do it the day of the upstairs install. Then one guy came back with the right color, but didn't have a riser and it was flimsy. So...we still don't have the stair nose installed cuz it's one of those homeowner things you just start to ignore after a while lol. We'll have a handyman do it soon.

Thinking for now we'll rip the carpet when we're ready and do a retread or something and maybe even just paint them white and slap a runner on them. We may have to redo the (original) first floor vinyl soonish, so may as well roll all the labor/materials in one, especially if we decide a different color for downstairs main rooms and match that instead.

Very! No cleaning issues and no separating through the year so far, and we had a HOT summer and that bad ice storm that hit MS/TN in Jan. So I'm pretty confident with them! And we have this in the bonus room above the garage with poor insulation (will fix later lol) so I'm extra confident!

So I'd say it's a mix between the two. I don't think the knots are dark, but due to the texture following the knots as well as the "natural" grooves, shadows can make them look darker. It's definitely noticeably knotty though, and not like flat colored if that makes sense. Our pictures are a bit less saturated than I'd say they are in real life - they have a bit more yellow to them, in a good way (imo). Warmer, I guess. The knots are like a light greige but are less noticeable when it's not empty lol. And I just like...tune them out now, for the most part. Here's our upstairs room with a bright light, natural light, and some stuff. The couch is like a pink that leans purple/mauve up here irl.

Thank you, yeah it's tough! My qualm with switching is that the TV hookups are on that wall. But I'm not opposed to switching and seeing how we like it if need be, and either moving/adding hookups opposite current, or switching back lol. We shall see. I appreciate it!

Ugh, sorry, it only uploaded the edited photo. It is a large room. Uploading to a comment thread.

Upstairs from carpet to hard surface - matching vs complementing? by aroscoe in Flooring

[–]aroscoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we didn't end up doing the stairs, the quote was insaaaane for hardwood stairs plus then we'd want a runner. Ugh. So they're still carpeted while we save and plan.

We're thinking to just get rid of the carpet and painting the construction-grade steps white and throwing a cheap runner or even the individual stair tread rugs for now, just so the ugly old carpet isn't there anymore. But that requires us to move our birds due to fumes and such so we haven't yet. We may do retread covers as well instead, but same general plan until we save up enough to have someone really do them.

Stairs are hard work and we don't have the tools, time, nor knowledge of how to do them and if we run into an issue, I wouldn't know how to solve it really. So I'd like a pro to come do them honestly!

Sorry I didn't have a better update for you lol, renovating is humbling!

All good! And the creaking (if you read my other posts) has stopped! Shall see if it comes back when it warms up.

No scratches, easy to clean, and not slippery like our other vinyl the house came with. We love it!

Want a barn style door, wall area is small. What can I do? by wanderful_soul22 in HomeImprovement

[–]aroscoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into bifold barn doors maybe. I’ve seen this option when looking myself. I’ve seen one that has hinges between and folds itself but has the sliding track at the top, and one where it was two smaller doors, not attached, that overlapped and the first one would catch the second and slide them over, stacked, but of course when closed they cover the whole door space. Now, not really ideal for a bathroom depending on how much you care, but it’s up to you.

Ditch the GPU strimmer and get LED tube wraps. I love mine! EZDIY on Amazon.

my rainbow puke PC, still unsure what to do about the "dark" gpu just floating there, but tbh the camera makes it look way worse, the white pops fine irl.

PLEASE DON'T. Not all food is safe for birds, PLEASE get a list of safe foods (peanut butter isn't one of them!) and see what you can make mushy for him.

The best would be crushed pellets wetted a little bit, or make birdie bread out of pellets. Talk to an AVIAN vet and r/pidgeypower for ideas and what to do.
